Samsung Galaxy S23 January 2025 update

Samsung made Galaxy S23 users wait more than usual for the One UI 6 Beta but dropped a wonderful update. No doubt, it can be considered the biggest upgrade to One UI in years. The One UI 6.0 update is packed with plenty of new traits, let’s explore the 5 best features.

Revamped Quick Panel

From looks, Samsung has radically upgraded the One UI with its 6th iteration. The Quick Panel is completely revamped, taking inspiration from Android and One UI together. Toggles are now arranged in different sections, focussing on user convenience.

Direct access to Quick Settings

Another notable change that Samsung made to the Quick Panel is the ease of access. Now, you can directly access the extended Quick Panel, thanks to the new toggle. In Settings, there’s a new toggle that allows you to make the extended Quick Settings accessible with a single right swipe.

Custom Camera Widget

Custom Camera Widget is a stunning addition to the One UI 6 Beta, which takes all the camera elements to the home screen. If you are a photography lover and mostly use specific camera modes, you can now take them all on the home screen and a single tap will take you to your desired space.

Chromecast screen sharing

In One UI 6, Samsung’s Smart View Labs section now shows for everyone without jumping through any hoops, and Chromecast support is one of the toggles in the menu. Once enabled, this new feature makes casting to a Chromecast a smooth experience.

Enhanced Weather app

One UI 5 brought a redesigned and dynamic Weather application, which is now further refined in the One UI 6. You may have noticed spammy bugs – news or videos while scrolling across the app to check the weather. The latest iteration ends the space for ads and you will only get useful info about local weather.

One UI 7 unofficially lands on Samsung Galaxy S8: Should you try it?

Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung released the One UI 7 update with the Galaxy S25 series, but surprisingly, users of the older Galaxy S8 can also experience its features, though not officially. While this update isn’t officially rolled out by Samsung, thanks to some developers, you can now enjoy some of the new One UI 7 features on the Galaxy S8.

For those unfamiliar with custom ROMs, it’s basically a modified version of Android that brings new features to old phones. Now, it is impressive to see an older Galaxy smartphone, launched in 2017, lets you experience the latest software.

With this custom ROM, the Galaxy S8 gets some One UI 7 features like Circle to Search, the Now Bar, and new Quick Settings. You also get some neat Galaxy AI features and a fresh charging animation that makes the phone feel much more modern.

However, there are some problems. The custom ROM comes with bugs, including a broken camera, flashlight, and Face Unlock. Other features like Smart View, DeX, and Wi-Fi also don’t work properly. The phone may randomly restart, and the battery drains quickly. Because of all these issues, this update is not recommended for everyday use.

Also, installing this custom ROM isn’t easy. If you’ve never done it before, it can be tricky. There’s a risk that if something goes wrong, your phone might not work anymore. It’s best to avoid installing it unless you know what you’re doing. If you’re not using the Galaxy S8 as your main phone, you can give it a try, but keep in mind it comes with risks.

So, should you try it? If you enjoy experimenting with your phone and not using it as your main phone, you can give it a try, but keep in mind it comes with risks. But if you still use your Galaxy S8 every day, it might be better to skip this update.

Watch: One UI 7 introduces Vertical App Drawer—It’s Awesome!

Samsung One UI 7.0

One UI 7 finally brought a Vertical App Drawer to Samsung phones. For years, Galaxy smartphone users have voiced their desire for a vertical app drawer through community forums, social media, and direct feedback to Samsung.

The official community has been all over this, from forum posts to tweets, demanding a simpler way to get to installed apps without that endless side-scrolling. It just made sense, especially with screens getting bigger by the year.

Samsung has long opted for horizontal swipe to navigate through pages of apps. It is visually appealing but many users found it less efficient, especially on smartphones having larger displays; such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra (6.9″).

One UI 7 Beta was dropped in early December and users found the addition of Vertical App Drawer. If you’re one of those who liked the old way or have your sorting method, you can still keep it as Samsung made sure everyone’s happy.

This change signifies a move towards a more personalized, efficient, and user-friendly interface. For those eager to experience this new feature, the full rollout of One UI 7 is imminent, and it’s highly likely to start for the Galaxy S24 series tomorrow.

Watch: One UI 7 Vertical App Drawer

One UI has always been about making things easier for Samsung users. There was this one thing that felt like a glaring omission – a vertical app drawer. With One UI 7, the company has rolled out the update we’ve all been waiting for.

Within the default App Drawer, there’s now this sleek option in the hamburger menu where you can flick a switch to go from side-to-side to up-and-down. Your apps are now in one scrollable list, sorted from A to Z, so finding them is like a breeze.

Galaxy S23 One UI 7

It’s February 2025, and Galaxy smartphone users (except for the Galaxy S25) are eagerly waiting for the stable One UI 7 update. Galaxy S23 is on Samsung’s priority list for the Stable One UI 7 update, and a new report shows that the update is almost here.

A tipster discovered a new One UI 7 build for the Galaxy S23 series on CheckFirm. The build S91xBXXU7DYB2, an upgrade from the previous version ending with DYA6, indicates that the stable One UI 7 update for the S23 is just around the corner.

Do note that CheckFirm listings don’t guarantee an upcoming firmware’s arrival. The entries change frequently and can also be influenced by extractors. Take this input as a grain of salt while waiting for the official update.

One UI 7 might even arrive with the February 2025 security patch, which would make it even more secure for users. Also, the new build suggests that Samsung is actively preparing to start the One UI 7 stable rollout for Galaxy devices.

Although Samsung hasn’t given a specific date for the release, this new build suggests they’re working regularly to roll out One UI 7.  The Galaxy S25 series already launched with One UI 7, so we can assume the Galaxy S23 series will be next in line.

One UI 7.0

In the rapidly evolving world of mobile technology, software updates play a pivotal role in enhancing user experience, security, and device longevity. Regular updates ensure your device remains protected against new security threats, improve performance, introduce new features, and maintain compatibility with the latest applications and services.

For Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets, Samsung has committed to providing a certain number of major OS and One UI updates, to keep them secure and smooth running.

Samsung’s update policy varies based on the device series and model, with newer flagship devices like the Galaxy S and Z Fold series receiving up to 7 years of software support including both OS and security updates. Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro October 2024 update

Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Manager app is getting One UI 7-inspired widget. Samsung has just started the rollout of a new version, bringing tweaks matching the new OS.

The new Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Manager update brings a revamped UI and widgets inspired by the new oS. It has also got a new option, letting you enable matching the widget’s background.

When enabled, the widget on the home screen will switch across Dark and Light modes itself. It will appear the same as the entire user interface be it Dark mode or Light mode.

Similar to the battery widget, the Buds 3 Pro companion has added a background transparency slider. It features three different levels of transparency settings for effortless setup.

In addition, the widget has also adopted rounds and curves debuted in the One UI 7. The design tweak can be seen in 2 x 1 and 4 x 1 grid sizes, looking like a pill similar to Quick Panel.

The redesigned Buds 3 Pro experience is available on devices running One UI 7.0. Samsung is about to start the update’s rollout for existing devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.
