Samsung Galaxy S24 series could be packed with Satellite communication support. The company’s next-gen flagship lineup is expected for an early 2024 launch. In a recent development, the Korean Minister of Science and ICT hinted that Samsung might commercialize Satellite communication next year.

In an interview with YonhapNews, Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT disclosed that local (South Korean) smartphone makers are expected to launch a service that enables data transmission and reception between 5G smartphones and Satellite next year at the earliest.

“I cannot say for sure, but I know that the domestic industry is considering commercializing the service next year, expecting that a standard related to satellite communication will be prepared next year,” Minister Lee said.

The Korean official predicted that it would take at least three months from now to approve the cross-border supply agreement for Starlink. And no doubt, it’s an indirect confirmation about the arrival of Satellite communication support for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series next year.

Samsung is reportedly focusing on non-terrestrial networks (NTN) between mobile terminals and satellites. This technology can transmit large amounts of data such as photos and videos in both directions in addition to emergency rescue messages.

Various phone makers like Apple have commercialized services that deliver distress signals sent by users through satellites in situations where communication networks are poor. However, Samsung has not brought satellite communication to the Galaxy Z Flip/Fold 5 and Galaxy S23 series.
