WhatsApp expanding Material Design 3 elements to more users
Following the initial rollout, WhatsApp is now expanding the Material Design 3 elements to more users. The latest WhatsApp Beta for Android v2.23.15.24 started to roll out to Beta testers.
The fresh WhatsApp Beta update brings redesigned floating action button, new toggles, and rounded alerts to more testers. Initially, these design tweaks were visible on a limited number of accounts signed up for Beta activity, but the company is now rolling out to a wider audience.
WABetaInfo notes that the rounded menus are now available to more users, along with the bottom navigation bar and the new floating action button. Besides, chats tab and the floating action button have been redesigned to represent an incoming message bubble.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.23.24.23 is rolling out with the ability to check Status from the Chat screen. Status updates can also be visible in the conversation screen as the status ring now appears around the profile photo within the top app bar.

This change significantly enhances the overall user experience by minimizing the need to navigate between tabs, and improving the process of staying connected with your contacts by viewing their status updates even from the conversation screen.
In addition, this reduced navigation not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to a more user-friendly experience. It’s very important to note that if you choose to mute status updates from a particular contact, you won’t see them when you open the conversation with that contact.
Google offers 15GB of free cloud storage to all accounts, shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos. On Android devices, WhatsApp offers an automated backup service that regularly creates a backup of your chat history on Google Drive.
In its recent announcement, Google said that WhatsApp chat backup will start counting toward your Google Account cloud storage limit. Beta users will shift to this change next month, with expansion scheduled until early 2024.

As long as you have available space within your Google Account, WhatsApp backups will continue to work. However, you’ll need to free up space to restart automatic backup in case you hit the storage limit (15GB).
Google’s announcement notes that WhatsApp backup experience on Android will be in line with how it works on other platforms, with the added benefit of Google’s 15 GB of storage available at no charge.
