On May 24, Samsung officially introduced the “Smart Factory 3.0” project in South Korea that uses AI (artificial intelligence) and data technology to advance manufacturing sites of small and medium-sized enterprises into intelligent factories.

The company selects SMEs located in areas at risk of demographic extinction as priority targets for support, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and balanced national development.

Adding to this, Samsung organizes and operates a separate organization dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs in sustainable management (ESG).

The Korean tech giant also plans to start a new Smart Factory 3.0 and contribute to the expansion of the ‘spontaneous local smart factory ecosystem’, which is carried out by local governments by holding hands with local governments and smart factory beneficiaries beyond individual companies.

Through Smart Factory 3.0 AI project, Samsung invests a total of 30 billion won for 3 years, and 10 billion won annually, to support the establishment and advancement of smart factories in 600 SMEs.

Samsung Electronics started the smart factory business for small and medium-sized enterprises in North Gyeongsang Province in 2015 and expanded it nationwide in 2016.

It has supported the construction of smart factories in a total of 3,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) nationwide through the smart factory project for eight years until last year.
