Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 with new waterdrop hinge will soon face harsh testing

Samsung is planning to bring new droplet design hinge to its next-generation foldable smartphone. The launch is reportedly scheduled for late July, while a reliable Korean publication revealed that the first mold product for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 waterdrop hinge will be released this week.

According to trusted South Korean publication TheElec, the first mold product for the waterdrop-shaped hinge, which Samsung plans to apply for the first time to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 this year, will be shared within the company this week.

The South Korean tech giant aims to complete mass production approval and shipping approval for the waterdrop hinge by the end of next month or early July. However, some parts for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 have already started mass production.

Besides, it plans to share the first mold product of the waterdrop hinge internally this week, and if the performance meets internal standards, it will begin preliminary production in small quantities while supplementing the problems.

After that, the development verification (PVR), mass production approval (PRA), and shipping approval (SRA) stages for the waterdrop hinge are expected to be completed by the end of next month or early July.

The mass production approval stage after development verification is the point at which verification is virtually completed. The release is the final formal approval, but release is a formal procedure.

The company is planning to conduct a waterdrop hinge reliability test in a harsh environment. Durability must be secured so that there is no problem with product performance even if the axis for implementing the waterdrop hinge is repeatedly moved.

The size of the external screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is 3.38 inches, which is larger than the 1.9 inches of the external screen of the previous Z Flip 4. The size of the Z Flip 5 internal screen (6.7 inches), Z Fold 5 external screen (6.2 inches) and internal screen (7.6 inches) are the same as the previous ones.
