On May 3rd, Qualcomm forecasted its third-quarter revenue and profit, and Samsung is largely to thank via “Snapdragon for Galaxy”! The company said that the smartphone industry would take “longer” to use up excess chips before fresh orders flow in.
According to a Reuters report, the share of Qualcomm fell nearly 7% in extended trading after it said its forecast also accounted for macroeconomic headwinds and weaker global sales of smartphones. The company hopes the Chinese smartphone market will see recovery in the second half, however, doesn’t mean a lot.
Snapdragon for Galaxy
As the global smartphone market is facing economic decline, Qualcomm managed to greatly survive in the situation, in which, Snapdragon for Galaxy played a key role, ordered by Samsung. This year, the Galaxy S23 series solely uses a Snapdragon chipset, which Qualcomm tuned for Samsung.
As Snapdragon’s share reached 100% in Galaxy this year, Samsung has greatly benefited Qualcomm to prevent a sharp decline in sales and revenue. As the Korean tech giant estimate, Galaxy S23 series sales will slow down in the next quarter, but the foldables are coming early.
Qualcomm x Apple
Qualcomm reportedly said that “a larger-than-normal decline” in its chip revenue forecast from the prior quarter was mainly due “to the timing of purchases by a modem-only handset customer, which is Apple, which makes its own application processor.”
Qualcomm forecast chips revenue of $6.9 billion to $7.5 billion. Moreover, the US chip designer forecasts total revenue of $8.1 billion to $8.9 billion in the third quarter, with an estimated adjusted earnings per share of $1.70 to $1.90.
Google Messages adds waveforms to Voice Recorder UI
Instead of holding down the mic to record, you will now see a panel with a start/stop button and options to cancel, delete, or attach the recording. You will also see a waveform and a timer while recording, and you can play back the recording before sending it.
The voice messages preview will also show a waveform between the play/pause button and the timer, making it more noticeable than the current straight line.
These changes are not widely available yet, but some users have reported seeing them on their phones. These new changes are part of a bigger redesign that Google is working on for Messages, which includes a revamped home screen that is still in beta testing. Google might announce new features soon.

Notably, a leaked promo shows off the control center of the Galaxy S23 FE, which mentions October 4 as the date. This means the company is preparing to hold its FE products launch on the same date as Google’s Made by Google event for Pixel 8 series.
