Samsung considering Unpacked in July 2023 for Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5
Samsung is considering early Unpacked for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year. The company aims to stay ready to survive against the global economic downturn, estimated decreasing sales of the Galaxy S23 series as well as narrowing and widening the release date with rivals.
According to TheElec, Samsung is considering an early Unpacked of Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, by two to three weeks compared to last year. It comes due to concerns about 2Q earnings, although the second quarter is usually the off-season, this year could be especially bad.
In the first quarter, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 flagship lineup exceeded conservative expectations in the first half, but in the rest of the mid to low-end phone shipments, it is known that the ‘push’ of existing stocks took a significant portion. Expectations are low in 2Q as it is an off-peak season.
If the foldable phone is released in the last week or late July instead of the second week of August, Samsung is wishing for an improvement in 3Q earnings. Since the Q4 results are being pulled, another countermeasure has to be found, but it may look better than two consecutive quarters of sluggish earnings.
If Samsung launches foldables early, there is a precondition that the reliability of the models must be secured within this month. Sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 were sluggish, and this year’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 should make up for last year’s slump.
The current production schedule for new foldable phone parts has been advanced by 2-3 weeks for some parts, but it is known that some parts have similar schedules to last year. Compared to last year, parts with relatively large specification changes are expected to be produced early.

Yesterday, we saw the Samsung Galaxy S24 series renders that revealed the phones’ design. While the Galaxy S24 and S24+ feature flat frame design, the S24 Ultra apparently brings the narrowest bezel in history. Samsung has slightly changed the aspect ratio of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This results in changes in the middle frame, and ditches the curved edges, indicating a flat display design. In the video below, you can see the transformation of the S23 Ultra into the upcoming S24 Ultra device.

As you can see in the comparison renders, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has an almost flat design as compared to its predecessor. The company has already reduced the curvature with the S23 Ultra this year, and it’s going to be flat, starting with the S24 Ultra next year.

Samsung recently unveiled its fifth-generation foldable smartphones in China, where they have different names and features than the global versions. The Samsung W24 is the rebranded version of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, while the Samsung W24 Flip is of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. These phones have some differences in aspects like RAM, weight, and wallpapers.
