Millions of Galaxy smartphone users have grabbed the One UI 5.1 update Samsung started dispatching yesterday. Besides the changelog, there are multiple changes that users have noticed on their phones after installing One UI 5.1 and they can be found in the Color Palette feature as well.

Based on Google’s Material You, Samsung offers the Color Palette feature for Galaxy devices that lets the customers revamp the look of their phone by applying different themes that match their lock screen or home screen.

In the beginning, Samsung used to provide only four color palettes to the customers that are based on their wallpaper. But the One UI 5.0 software significantly improved it with the integration of 16 Color Palettes and Basic Color options.

Theming the system UI through color palettes was easy until One UI 5.0 as it not only provided matched palettes but also automatically shows the palette when a new wallpaper was applied to the phone’s lock or home screen. But things have changed with the new One UI 5.1 software as it has made Color Palette theming a bit hectic.

According to multiple users’ reports and SammyFans’ personal experiences, the One UI 5.1 has broke the Color Palette feature. When you apply a new wallpaper to your phone, it does not show the matched Color Palette options.

In One UI 5.1, you will have to go to the Wallpaper and Style section and select the best Palette to theme your phone, and then apply it. It requires additional efforts from the customers as earlier they used to get the matches color palettes without doing anything.

Is it a bug?

When I saw the reports of users in the community, I thought that some Galaxy S22 phones have this bug. Then I checked in my S22 Ultra and I experienced the same. Later to confirm if this is limited to the S22 or other phones as well, I checked in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and surprisingly, the same thing happened.

At present, I don’t know if this is a bug or if Samsung has knowingly changed the settings. But users are not liking it at all. Hopefully, Samsung will fix this in the upcoming updates.
