During the Galaxy S23 launch conference in Malaysia, Samsung Mobile president TM Roh hinted at a possible partnership with global IT companies, when it comes to AI. The statement spread with hope for ChatGPT’s arrival to Samsung services such as Bixby.

Vietnam’s Soha News and other local media outlets reported that the Samsung Mobile prez mentioned that large-scale interactive AI services will promote the development of mobile technology, and gave OpenAI’s humanlike chatbot ChatGPT as an example.

“ChatGPT’s machine learning and deep learning are showing innovations. … The language model will pave the way for Samsung to develop further,” says a report quoting TM Roh.

Some reports say that TM Roh stated that the company has a research and development center focused on AI development. Samsung’s AI focused R&D centre is “open to collaborating with various partners to find better AI technologies in the future.”

Since TM Roh’s statement suggests that the ChatGPT or similar AI model/service is coming to Galaxy devices in the future, but, a company executive clarified later. A Samsung official said, “We have not been in discussions over launching mobile services based on ChatGPT. Don’t get us wrong.”

Nothing hidden, Samsung has a close partnership with industry giants including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta. These firms are also working with Samsung to boost the possibilities in AI (artificial intelligence) development.

Bixby is Samsung’s answer to Google Assistant service, which comes integrated into Galaxy devices. In most cases, Bixby is far away from Google Assistant and Samsung can make it wonderful by integrating the ChatGPT of a similar AI language mode.

Google Messages adds waveforms to Voice Recorder UI

Google Messages app Voice recorder ui

Google Messages is getting a new look for its voice recorder UI. The microphone icon in the text field will change to a waveform icon, which is different from the voice typing button in Gboard.

Instead of holding down the mic to record, you will now see a panel with a start/stop button and options to cancel, delete, or attach the recording. You will also see a waveform and a timer while recording, and you can play back the recording before sending it.

The voice messages preview will also show a waveform between the play/pause button and the timer, making it more noticeable than the current straight line.

These changes are not widely available yet, but some users have reported seeing them on their phones. These new changes are part of a bigger redesign that Google is working on for Messages, which includes a revamped home screen that is still in beta testing. Google might announce new features soon.
