James Kitto, Samsung UK boss has recently revealed that he didn’t give a smartphone to his daughter until she turned 11 years. He expressed that he believes under 11 age was too young for his daughter to use a smartphone.

He says that for people of any age who get phones, it is important to make sure they are safe online, if they are accessing the internet, they are using it in a safe way.

The Samsung UK boss said to BBC Today program, “I personally wouldn’t have given her one early, but it is a parental decision as to when you should get your child a phone.”

He further added – “What is important here is that, whoever is using a smartphone, of whatever age, is safe when they are surfing and browsing the internet.”

A study by Childwise found that nine and ten-year-old kids are operating smartphones and 60% of these children have their personal phones having access to the internet. The same report further states that 8% of children in the age group of five to six years also have their own smartphones, which is too early.

Giving smartphones to kids at such early age is slowly destroying them. A study found that primary school children are missing up to a full night’s sleep as their bedtime is getting delayed due to the use of social media and these kids are having higher levels of FOMO (fear of missing out) and anxiety.
