Wishlist of Samsung One UI 5.1 Features
Samsung One UI 5.1 may be the next Stable software version of Galaxy-exclusive software. The company will introduce the Galaxy S23 on February 1st, while the devices are most likely come pre-loaded with Android 13-based One UI 5.1, embedding new features, and improvements.
Seeing Samsung’s tradition, the upcoming One UI 5.1 could come with a handful of new features and improved system performance over One UI 5.0. Since we are approaching the official Galaxy S23 launch, it’s time to wish for which features we want with the One UI 5.1 update.

If Samsung introduces the Galaxy S23 series devices with the new One UI 5.1 software iteration, select older Galaxy phones and tablets including the S22, S21, and Note 20 series will receive through OTA update. However, the debut of One UI 5.1 is almost confirmed with the S23 lineup. Check eligible devices
One UI 5.1 Features Wishlist
1. Battery Widgets
During the showcase event of One UI 5.0, Samsung teased new battery widgets, which didn’t come with the Stable Android 13 update so far. The new widgets are quite similar to the ones we can see in iOS and Stock Android, containing battery status of all connected devices including watch, and buds.
- We guess those new widgets will be available for consumers with the One UI 5.1 update.
2. Multi-user profiles
Samsung enabled multi-user profiles features during the One UI 5 Beta testing for Galaxy S22 series. Due to unknown reasons, the company later announced that the multi-user feature won’t be accessible in next Beta, followed by the Stable build.
- With further optimizations, multi-user feature should come back with One UI 5.1.
3. User interface
One UI 5.0 update is all about new customization options and tools for Galaxy devices. Since the update is widely available for Galaxy consumers, it doesn’t come with noticeable changes in the user interface. The company impressively tweaked the stock app icons, but, other key elements remain the same as One UI 4.1.
Before the One UI 6, Samsung should bring some changes to its traditional quick settings, notification panel, and volume adjustment UI sections with the next One UI 5.1 build. The chances of major UI changes are quite low, still we hope, Samsung may bring some cosmetic changes.

4. Camera features
The Galaxy S23 Ultra reportedly uses a 200MP primary camera sensor, and Samsung developed 12.5MP, 50MP and 200MP camera modes for photography. In some cases, the Samsung Camera app lags behind Google Camera, which should be fixed with the One UI 5.1.
Astrophotography on Galaxy is possible on Galaxy S22 series, thanks to the Expert RAW camera app. However, the availability of this app is limited, which disappoints consumers of Galaxy S21, Note 20 and S20 series smartphones. The company should bring some notable advancements to the Stock Camera app.
5. System improvements
The South Korean tech giant impressively deployed the Android 13 update for Galaxy devices, and the rollout is likely to finish before the year ends. Still, the One UI 5.0 software needs some optimization with Galaxy hardware and the Android operating system.
Material You Dynamic Theming still works better on Pixel devices, while the system animations and visual effects can be further improved with the One UI 5.1. Pixel Feature Drop updates brought a lot of new features such as Clear Calling, therefore, Samsung users want better treatment from the vendor.

US chip curbs may affect Samsung’s growth opportunities
In a recent development, the US govt imposed new chip curbs on China that may affect the growth opportunities of Samsung. KoreaHerald reports that the new US chip restrictions on China may have a limited impact on Samsung Elec.
The new HBM export ban on China may harm Samsung Elec’s growth opportunities. On December 2nd, the US announced a new set of measures to ban the export of critical chips and chip equipment, including HBM, to China.
The rules include new controls on 24 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and 3 types of software tools for developing or producing semiconductors, as follows:
- New controls on high-bandwidth memory (HBM)
- New red flag guidance to address compliance and diversion concerns
- 140 Entity List additions and 14 modifications spanning PRC tool manufacturers, semiconductor fabs, and investment companies involved in advancing the PRC government’s military modernization
- Several critical regulatory changes to enhance the effectiveness of our previous controls.
The HBM chips are critical components used in AI chips, for AI training and inference at scale. Products made using American technology are prohibited from export to China, given the Foreign Direct Product Rule.
Korea’s Samsung and SK Hynix and US-based Micron are the only chipmakers that make HBM chips. However, these firms will no longer be eligible to sell HBM semiconductors to China, starting December 31, 2024.
Samsung reportedly generates 20% of its HBM sales from China. It has been selling older HBM2 and HBM2E chips to China. As the company won’t be able to export the cutting-edge chips, the business may be harmed.
