Galaxy S22 Ultra Vs Galaxy S23 Ultra: Upgrades, new features and changes

The Galaxy S22 Ultra dominated the Android smartphone market in 2022 with its high-profile hardware and features. Samsung is going to drop sequel of the S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, on February 1st with some interesting upgrades over its predecessor.

Display

Similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have 6.8″ edge Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O Display with 3088×1440 pixel resolution and 500 ppi. It will also be HDR10+ certified for great entertainment along with 120Hz refresh rate.

Design

The Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra could look similar to each other as Samsung changed the rear design of other two siblings. It’s reported and shown in renders that the S23 Ultra has slightly thicker middle frame than the S22 Ultra, which other aspects are the same.

S Pen

Samsung brought the S Pen function with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is continuing with the Galaxy S23 Ultra this year. Similarly, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a dedicated slot for the S Pen with features like Air Actions, Air view, Live message, Screen off memo, screen write, PENUP, Magnify, Bixby Vision and more.

Camera

  • Front

Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra and S22 Ultra use 40MP front camera for selfies, however, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a new 12MP sensor. It has been reported that the camera sensor features Dual Pixel technology, hence, the quality will increase even after megapixel downgrade.

  • Rear

Galaxy S22 Ultra uses quad rear camera sensors including a 108MP Wide-angle Camera with OIS, a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, a 10MP Telephoto Camera with 10x Optical Zoom and a 10MP Telephoto Camera with 3x Optical Zoom. Moreover, it features OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and Laser AF functions.

Galaxy S23 Ultra is likely to come with a 200MP Wide-angle Camera with OIS, while other camera sensors may remain unchanged including a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, a 10MP Telephoto Camera with 10x Optical Zoom and a 10MP Telephoto Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra could add Nightography mode in Video as well as selfie camera along with a new AstroHyperlapse feature. However, the current Galaxy S22 camera features will be continued with the S23 lineup that are as follows:

Processor

Samsung shipped the Galaxy S22 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 chipsets based on 4nm process technology, both manufactured at Samsung Foundry.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra will solely use Qualcomm’s new 4nm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with some custom tweaks such as overclocked CPU and GPU, the Exynos version is not arriving.

Battery

Samsung is not bringing any kind of upgrade in the battery of the Galaxy S23 Ultra as it’s going to be 5000mAh, similar to its predecessor. However, software optimization and display may boost the backup.

Charging

Galaxy S23 Ultra could support fast charging up to 45W through a wired Samsung adapter, similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone.
