How to change Side Key (power button) settings in your Samsung Galaxy

Published

on

By default, newer Samsung phones open Bixby when you hold down the Side key, the key you’d expect to function as a power button. But users can also program this key to perform different tasks, such as turning off their phone, Paying with Samsung Pay, Quick launch the camera, or opening an app through Side key settings.

If you keep opening Bixby by mistake when you press the side key, Samsung offers you the ability to remap the side key settings so that you can open any app you like. To do so, visit your phone’s “Settings” and enter the “Advanced features” menu.

Whereas, for “Double press“, you can choose between:

  • Quick launch camera
  • Pay with Samsung Pay
  • Open app
    • Tap the Settings icon to select an app.

Other than these, if you want quick access to certain Accessibility options on your phone, you can customize your phone’s side and volume keys to open accessibility settings. In order to do this, head over to your phone’s “Settings” and visit “Accessibility“.

Now tap on “Advanced features” and then the “Side and Volume up” keys option. Here, you can select different shortcuts you want to appear, such as the Accessibility Menu, Magnification, or whatever else you need.

Meanwhile, to use your added shortcut, press the “Side and Volume Up keys together“, and then tap the accessibility function you want to use.

Besides these, you can also customize the Volume Up and Down keys to open some of the frequently used features. Follow the same steps as described above but use the Volume Up and Down keys to select it instead. The same options will be available.
