Samsung is planning to get around 60 million Galaxy phones manufactured by JDM (joint development manufacturers) in 2023. With a slight expansion of using JDM, the company will save costs in order to increase overall profitability.
60 million Galaxies by JDMs
According to TheElec, Samsung is considering to manufacture 59.86 units of smartphones using JDM (joint development manufacturers) in 2023. At the recent meeting, this plan was shared with Samsung suppliers along with its annual plan for 2023.
It’s worth mentioning that Samsung’s plan to outsource 60 million Galaxy units in 2023 accounts for 18% of the total number of smartphones it plans to manufacture in 2023. During the meeting, the company also told suppliers to continue their efforts to cut costs through 2023.
Samsung x JDM
As of now, Korean tech giant uses four JDMs, including Wintech and Huaqin. In 2022 alone, the Korean tech giant is expected to manufacture around 50 million smartphones using JDMs. Meanwhile, there are opposing views on Samsung’s extensive use of JDM.
Back in 2019, JDMs only accounted for around 6% of the smartphones Samsung made that year. But this has increased to double digits in 2020 since TM Roh became head of Samsung’s mobile business, now called MX Business by the company.
