Samsung S21 One UI 5.0 Notifications

A bunch of Samsung smartphones got a chance to test the new Android 13-based One UI 5.0 software through beta updates. Besides the new features, I have found many improvements in my Samsung Galaxy S21 after installing the One UI 5.0 beta builds and these include the “Notifications” section in Settings.

Notifications are great to tell you if something new has happened to any of the applications on your smartphone so that you don’t miss anything that deserves your attention. However, we don’t usually like to have notifications for every application and want some changes.

Therefore, Samsung Notifications are highly customizable and with One UI 5.0, there’s much more. Let’s check out what features and changes the One UI 5.0 update brings to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Notifications section.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Notifications: One UI 5.0

The interface of the Samsung Notifications menu in Settings is significantly revamped, you will notice instant changes as soon as you open it. The new interface is more clear, easy to understand, and takes up less space.

At first, there’s an “App notifications” option where you can select the apps that can send you notifications. Next is “Lock screen notifications”, which lets you customize the way you want to see your notification when your phone is locked. You can hide notification content, choose the type of notifications to appear, or show them on AOD or not.

After this, it has a “Notification pop-up style”, which lets you select whether you want to see notifications on Brief or Detailed. You can also select the apps that will show brief notifications, Edge lightning, and Color by keyword. There’s also an option “Show even while the screen is off”.

“Do not disturb” is the next feature you will see in this menu. You can schedule, which time you don’t want your phone to ring when a notification arrives. You can even select which apps’ notifications will be muted or which of your contacts can call you.

In the “Advanced settings” option, you can further customize your notifications with Floating notification type, history, reminders, app icon badges, actions & reply suggestions, and more.

After all these, there are two additional features: Notification sound and Flash notification. The first lets you select the vibration type, notification tone, temporary mute, and others. Whereas, the second one lets you enable a flashlight when a notification arrives.

Notification permission:

Notification permission is a new feature that One UI 5.0 has brought to Galaxy devices. It works exactly as it is named. When you use an app for the first time, it will ask you whether you want to receive notifications from it or not. You can say no to apps if you don’t want them to disturb you by sending worthless notifications.

Samsung provides the ability to disable app notifications for so long now. But it’s more convenient to have the app itself ask you for permission to send the notification.
