At Samsung Developer Conference 2022, Samsung announced an extended partnership with Google to bring Matter’s multi-admin capabilities and offer greater flexibility between smart home ecosystems and convenience for new and existing Samsung and Google users.

According to the information, this collaboration will make it easier for Samsung SmartThings and Google Home customers to add Matter-enabled devices to their Galaxy phones or tablets and control them from both apps.

Samsung says smart homeowners have experienced challenges in using their devices across multiple ecosystems so far. They had to remember which apps and interfaces they could control or automate a particular device.

Meanwhile, the new Matter standard’s multi-admin capabilities will provide the foundation for connecting devices directly to multiple apps and ecosystems, thereby, giving consumers more flexibility and choices.

Both companies are building on multi-admin for users to let them seamlessly find, choose to connect, and control Matter-enabled devices through SmartThings or Google Home apps on Android.

Furthermore, once a user will open the SmartThings app, the application will make them aware of Matter devices that are set up with Google Home as well as will give a choice to easily onboard those devices to SmartThings, and vice-versa.

No matter if you want to control your smart home on your SmartThings app or a Google Nest Hub, the devices will always be there. You will not have to manually add each of your devices one at a time or worry about which ecosystem their device was set up on first.

Jaeyeon Jung, Corporate Vice President and Head of SmartThings, said, “As the largest Android developer, Samsung values its strong partnership with Google. Providing users with greater flexibility through this new multi-admin feature is a natural progression in our evolution as partners, allowing us to better support our massive existing and potential user base with both Samsung and Google products.”
