Currently, Wi-Fi 6E is the latest Wi-Fi version, which will be succeeded by Wi-Fi 7 in 2024, and it’s ready to debut with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series in the second half of the year, reports DigiTimes. It’s not going to happen for the first time as Samsung has always been the first Android vendor to debut the latest version.

At present, the latest Apple iPhone models are using the Wi-Fi 6 technology, and there’s no notable flagship phone launching in near future, the company will directly switch to the 7th iteration in 2024. The latest report suggests that Wi-Fi 6E will just be a “transactional technology, as Wi-Fi 7 launching in 2024.

According to the report, Wi-Fi 7 technology will be capable of using 300MHz channels with the support of 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), offering up to 2.4x faster speeds compared to Wi-Fi 6 without extending the number of antennas.

Per the info via Wi-Fi Alliance, the upcoming Wi-Fi 7 is likely to be equipped with speeds of between 30Gbps to 40Gbps. Meanwhile, it’s important to mention that the Wi-Fi 7 technology will be introduced with routers and laptops ahead of mobile phones.

Earlier this year, Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek showcased the Wi-Fi 7 and later on Intel revealed that this new standard is coming to laptops by 2024. Apart from this, the US chipmaker Qualcomm is also working on Wi-Fi 7 chip options to adopt it as early as possible, which could debut with FastConnect 7800 chip.

Samsung Galaxy S23

Seeing bad performance and negative growth of Exynos, Samsung ditched its self-developed chipset from Galaxy S flagship lineup this year. The Galaxy S23 series solely uses “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” processor, while Samsung is also working on a custom chip development.

According to the latest report, Samsung is reportedly planning to use a custom/optimized chipset in each Galaxy model in the future. In a conference call, Samsung Elec’s MD said, “this year, the company will proceed with recruitment to develop APs for the most suitable price and performance among major solutions.”

In addition, the company executive disclosed that considering market demand, release time and regional leads, Samsung Mobile is planning to adopt optimized APs (custom chipset) for each Galaxy model. It suggests there might be two flagship Galaxy chipsets every year as soon as Samsung achieves a level.

Back in December 2022, the South Korean tech giant’s MX Division established an AP solution development team. The main aim of this team is to find the possibilities of improvements in the chipset department, which will deliver fruitful results with Galaxy devices.

The recent report also indicates that the company is planning to promote the Galaxy-exclusive chip development through cooperation with partners. With this move, Samsung would further cement the competitiveness of Galaxy products and strengthen differentiated customer experiences.
