TSMC-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 boasts serious upgrades

For Qualcomm, Samsung manufactured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset for flagship mobile devices, while the chip giant joined forces with TSMC for the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. Instead of Samsung, Qualcomm has given orders for the 4nm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips to TSMC due to bad performance complaints.

The US  chip maker already confirmed that its annual Snapdragon Summit will be held in November 2022, where, the 8 Gen 2 processor is expected to be introduced. Ahead of the official release, a Weibo tipster revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have ultra high frequency and GPU will outperform Apple A-series chips.

According to the information, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform has reached the 3.4-3.5GHz range in internal testing, which will be further improved before the official launch, while there are notable improvements in GPU performance compared to the existing chips.

The tipster further added that the future Android flagships packed with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will beat Apple A-series chips, thanks to the extreme performance of the GPU. Meanwhile, the mobile platform should be more power efficient alongside bringing improved performance.

As per the previous reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor will introduce a number of new features and performance enhancements. And Chinese OEMs are preparing to introduce their upcoming flagships with futuristic hardware capabilities, such as:

  • 2K+120Hz E6 1440Hz PWM flexible screen
  • 1.5K+120Hz Q9 2160Hz PWM flexible screen
  • 1-inch main camera
  • New Telephoto sensors

Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the same source revealed that the mid-year flagship chip won’t feature major changes in performance as the 8 Gen 1 and 8 Plus Gen 1. Qualcomm would only introduce an overclocked version of the 8 Gen 2 as 8 Plus Gen 2 in mid-2023.
