Digital Car Key is a futuristic feature crafted by Samsung that makes select Galaxy smartphones like a digital key of flagship cars from select OEMs. Earlier, Digital Car Key support was available for a limited number of Samsung phones and cars, which is now expanded.

According to a screenshot shared by users, the Samsung Digital Key feature is now available on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra for  Genesis GV60, G90 / Kia Niro / Hyundai Palisade, however, devices must be running Android 12 OS.

Aside from this, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G carrier-locked models are only supported through the Android 12 version upgrade. It’s worth mentioning that the Galaxy S20 FE doesn’t support the Digital Car Key feature.

Adding to this, the BMW models manufactured after July 2020 will support the Samsung Digital Car key feature on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series devices running Android 12. Most of the models seem to have gained the Digital Car Key feature support capabilities with the Android 12.

Last but not least, Samsung confirmed that more car models and supported phones will be added for the Digital Car Key feature in the future. In order to get more information about supported vehicles, consumers can contact the vehicle manufacturer.

The Digital Key feature is powered by UWB technology (ultrawideband), which is a short-range, wireless communication protocol that uses radio waves to operate, much like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It transmits radio waves at a much higher frequency that enables highly accurate spatial awareness and directional capabilities.
