Samsung mulls built-in Qi2 magnets, might ditch Type-C port next

Samsung Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 support Qi2 wireless charging. It’s a Qi2-ready feature that requires a special case to be used, as the phones don’t feature Qi2 magnets inside. Meanwhile, Samsung is seeking user feedback regarding Qi2 charging through an online survey to pack future Galaxy devices with built-in magnets.
As spotted by SammyGuru, Samsung is running a survey regarding the integration of Qi2 magnets inside future Galaxy phones. Adoption of a magnet inside would result in a thicker design, and one of Samsung’s questions includes it as well.
With 2025 flagships, Samsung unlocked Qi2 charging that requires a magnet-packed case. It’s the same move as other Android vendors like OnePlus and HMD that are selling Qi2-ready phones without fitting magnets beneath.
Beyond that, two questions hint that Samsung might also be exploring the possibility of going all wireless in future Galaxy devices. After the 3.5mm audio jack, the USB Type-C port could be the next to say goodbye to smartphones.

Via – AndroidAuthority
The Type-C port is mainly used for charging the device on a regular basis. However, it also helps users in seamless and faster data transfer across devices. The survey includes questions about data transfer habits as well, for better research.
Samsung’s wireless charging isn’t as fast as the wired solution. Also, going all wireless such easily isn’t likely in Galaxy devices. The company may improve Qi2 support first before thinking about killing the legacy wired charging solution.
The survey has no signs of potential implementation in Galaxy devices. However, it’s indeed a genuine hint at the plans that Samsung is considering. It all depends on how the survey participants react to the questions asked for the study.

Early numbers hint Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 about to rewrite record books

Samsung’s new foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, are estimated to break pre-order and sales records in South Korea. Design refinements, hardware upgrades, new OS, and Galaxy AI features are apparently working for Samsung in its home turf.
Back in 2023, Samsung sold 1.02 million units of the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 (combined) during the Korean pre-orders alone. Consumer interest toward the Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 is very high, as over 160,000 registrations have been made for just notifications.
As pre-orders start, the practical response will be seen from today. We expect the company to drop preliminary pre-order numbers by the end of this week and a final response record at the time when the official release is about to take place.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 were among Samsung’s best-selling foldables in the Korean market. The sales of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 remained comparatively sluggish due to no considerable upgrades to look at.
Being the home ground, South Korea has always been Samsung’s stronghold. Similar to Galaxy phones and appliances, the foldables are quite famous in the country, making it Samsung’s key market to gain foldable traction.
On July 9, Samsung introduced its new foldables: the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and Flip7 FE. The devices are available for pre-orders internationally, with Korean carriers today dropping details about offers and subsidies for consumers.
The imminent repeal of a subsidy-related act has intensified the competition in South Korea. With carriers offering huge benefits, the South Korean tech giant is about to rewrite the record books, riding the new foldables frenzy.

This Galaxy S25 FE upgrade could upset Samsung flagship buyers

Samsung is reportedly bringing many flagship-level upgrades to its Galaxy S25 FE, with the charging speed almost confirmed. Following a wild rumor, the next Fan Edition phone’s charging feature has just received a credible confirmation.
Galaxy S25 FE supports fast charging up to 45W, a major boost over the S24 FE. All the previous FE models from S20 FE to S24 FE come with 25W charging. Meanwhile, Samsung is raising the bar with its next Fan Edition device.
The TUV certification has just exposed the Galaxy S25 FE’s charging specs. The phone supports 10V/4.5A or 15V/3A wired fast charging that refers to 45W. It puts the S25 FE ahead of the S25 and Edge and close to the S25 Plus and Ultra.
It would make Samsung flagship buyers regret their purchase. Owners of the Galaxy S25 and S25 Edge might get upset as both mainstream flagships are capped at 25W charging. It’s the same case with the S24, S23, and S22 phones.
Galaxy S26 Plus might not see the light of day, and Samsung is indirectly bringing a gap filler in advance. With its October debut, the S25 FE might be a nice alternative for those looking at the S26 Plus as their next smartphone upgrade.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 ensures portability, and the S25 Edge aims at a sleeker design. Both have their own design advantages. Meanwhile, both lag when it comes to battery capacity and charging speed as compared to the cheaper S25 FE.

Apple foldable iPhone to use Samsung’s invisible crease display

Samsung Display will supply its crease-free display for the foldable iPhone, Apple analyst reports. The company has reportedly finalized Samsung Display to ensure a stable and seamless supply of foldable OLED panels, eyeing a 2026 release.
Analyst Ming Chi Kuo reports that the foldable Apple iPhone will use Samsung Display’s crease-free display. Meanwhile, Apple decided not to use its own design solution; the internal hinges will be supplied by SDC partner Fine M-Tec.
Apple is expected to mass-produce its first foldable device in the second half of next year. Plans for the foldable iPad have been halted, and the company is focusing on a Galaxy Z Fold-like device, with launch expected in late 2026.
Kuo also found that Samsung Display will introduce laser drilling technology to fulfill Apple’s design of a crease-free display. The new tech aims to create microstructures that better guide stress distribution and enhance crease resistance.
Additionally, an input from tipster Jukanlosreve suggests that Samsung SDI, along with two other vendors: 3M and Nitto Denko, will supply OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) for Apple’s foldable iPhone display panels next year.
Foldable smartphones are maturing with each new generation. Samsung has made great progress; if you look at the evolution from the very first foldable to the latest Fold7, it’s a massive breakthrough in the foldable segment.
Meanwhile, crease has always remained the biggest letdown on foldables. The middle crease can’t be avoided entirely due to the folding functionality of the screen, but Samsung Display has panels with a nearly invisible crease.

Image – Ice Universe / YouTube
That said, Apple decided to source creaseless foldable screens from Samsung Display. It will give a push to Samsung Display’s OLED leadership in the industry as well as the foldable smartphone segment, which Samsung owns.
Apple’s crease-free requirement and Samsung Display’s push make us anticipate major improvements in future Galaxy foldables. It’s also expected that next year’s Galaxy Fold may ship with a creaseless OLED display.

Samsung arms its rival Xiaomi with 50MP nanoprism camera and the first phone is already out

Samsung is supplying its advanced 50MP camera with nanoprism tech to its rival, Xiaomi. Introduced back in June last year, Samsung’s ISOCELL JNP has debuted with Xiaomi’s camera-focused phone, the Civi 5 Pro.
Japanese firm Sony holds the crown in the image sensor market with a 51.6% share as of 2024. South Korea’s Samsung, on the flip side, was the runner up with 15.4% share, with China’s Omnivision flagging 11.9% market share last year.
Samsung Semiconductor is expanding its ISOCELL business to crush Sony’s dominance and harm Omnivision’s growth. The camera sensor Xiaomi is sourcing from Samsung is ISOCELL JNP, which features 50MP resolution and nanoprism tech.
ISOCELL JNP sensor is designed by Samsung Semiconductor, a Samsung Electronics subsidiary. Galaxy phones heavily use ISOCELL sensors, and it’s the first time the Korean firm is supplying its advanced image sensor to its mobile business opponent.
As per Samsung, the ISOCELL JNP sensor has 50MP resolution, 0.64-micron pixel size, and 1/2.8-inch optical format. It’s the world’s first sensor with a nanoprism structure within the micro-lens, which enhances brightness and sharpness in low light.

Source – Samsung Semiconductor
ISOCELL JNP sensor captures more light per pixel to enhance low-light photography. It’s designed for smartphone makers who prefer thinner products, which makes it necessary for the camera modules to remain smaller.
“This architecture boosts light sensitivity by 25% compared to our previous JN5 sensor,” said a source at Samsung Electronics.
Notably, the ISOCELL JNP remained in “development stage” for around a year post-unveiling last June. However, the sensor has quietly entered mass production and is being supplied in large volumes for the Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro phone.
Samsung’s decision to arm its smartphone market rival Xiaomi with an advanced image sensor shows its plans to expand presence in this segment as well, despite knowing that Xiaomi phones will ultimately challenge its own Galaxy lineup.
