Android 13 Beta is live for non-Samsung smartphones, while the One UI 5 Beta development is underway, as well. As per the report, Samsung is likely to start the Android 13 Beta program for Galaxy devices in the third week, while we just got our first look at One UI 5 Beta design and UI changes, credits 9to5Google.

Samsung One UI 5 First Look

Before beginning, it needs to be clear that the screenshots used by 9to5Google are not from a Public One UI 5 Beta build, while their source provided it to them. Therefore, the design of the user interface will further change with the Public Beta and Official build alongside the addition of new features.

New notification design

Compared to the One UI 4.1, the notification design of the One UI 5 is slightly changed. Besides a re-imagined design language, the latest One UI version has new icons for notifications as well as minor changes in the opacity of notification shade and quick settings.

Pixel permission dialogs

Google and Samsung’s collaboration is regularly touching new heights, while we can see the latest example in the software department as well. Instead of designing its own permission dialogs element, Samsung seems to be using that one found in the stock Android, which will speed up the One UI 5 distribution process.

Grab text content from images, Keyboard OCR

Samsung Gallery will let you extract the text content from images so you can copy and use it anywhere you want. To make it possible, the company has added OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which detects text in images and allows you to pull text by using the button at the bottom.

Keyboard OCR: Exactly copied from the iOS, the new Keyboard OCR feature of the One UI 5.0 enables you to select extract text and hold the camera up to anything to grab text from it and insert it, in any text field. Further, the feature will hopefully add fruitful changes to make it better than iOS.

Security and privacy hub

Google Pixel devices got a new security and privacy hub with the Android 13 update, while Samsung created it for Galaxy devices as well, which you’ll get with the One UI 5 update. It presents all your accounts, passwords, security, and privacy features on one screen so you can easily access everything.

Multitasking gestures

Labs section brings additional features to Galaxy consumers, which is now getting add-ons with the One UI 5.0. In the initial build, there are now two options for accessing the feature and multitasking. After upgrading to Android 13, Samsung consumers will be able to:

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers to access the split view
  • Swipe in from the top right corner to make a popup window

Other changes

  1. Collaboration in Samsung Notes
  2. Currently active app in quick settings
  3. About phone page now shows image of device
  4. UWB toggle in settings

One UI 5, coming later this year
