Samsung phones are undoubtedly king when it comes to innovations, software, and after-sales support in the industry. Apple, on the other hand, is far behind as there are a lot of slaps like foldable, under-display camera, 5G and high refresh rate OLED.

Well, we’ll count Apple’s belated innovations on another day as it’s time to give some true information and knowledge to an executive of the company. Today, The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern shared a new documentary about the evolution of the iPhone.

The documentary contains an interview with Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak, iPhone co-creator Tony Fadell and some iPhone users. Greg Joswiak said that rivals including Samsung poorly copied Apple’s way of increasing the screen size years ago.

Joswiak said – “They were annoying. And they were annoying because, as you know, they ripped off our technology. They took the innovations that we had created and created a poor copy of it, and just put a bigger screen around it. So, yeah, we were none too pleased.”

Way back in 2013, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S4 smartphone with a 5-inch display and at that time Apple’s iPhone 5 had just 4″-ish panel. In 2014, the US phone maker offered bigger displays of 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch with the release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Did Samsung really copy Apple innovations?

Bigger screens on iPhones quietly benefited Apple as the iPhone 6 lineup became one of the most selling smartphone lineups of the vendor. Following this, the US tech giant has sued Samsung in 2011 over patent infringement claims that it has copied iPhone’s design.

A short time later, this case was settled in which Apple awarded $1 billion from Samsung. Well, this interview conversation shows just a jealously about the emerging market of Samsung he even knows that they are already late in developing 5G tech and higher refresh rate displays.

At the same time, Apple exec. should know that Samsung created its first foldable screen smartphone in 2019 and is going to introduce the fourth gen foldables this August with 2nd gen under display camera on Galaxy. Still, there’s no information about a foldable iPhone from Apple, and I think it could not arrive there for a few more years.
