Disable Annoying Samsung features

Swap the Nav button order

Samsung smartphones nowadays come with gesture navigation as the default. It not only good blood but also provides you with a clearer interface. But the company also offers you the three-button layout, which is also useful for some people.

But Samsung is the only Android manufacturer that puts the “Back” button on the right side. This feels useless and uncomfortable for me. If you feel the same, you can disable this feature and go back to the original. To do this:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Enter the Display section.
  • Tap Navigation Bar.
  • Select the other Button Order option.

Disable Bixby and change to Power menu

By default, newer Samsung phones open Bixby when you hold down the Side key, the key you’d expect to function as a power button. This is very stupid and is frustrating to use your phone when you want it to reboot to switch off.

But it’s easy to fix. Here’s how:

  • Swipe down on your home screen to open your notification panel.
  • Swipe again to expand quick settings.
  • Tap the Power icon in the top right corner.
  • Tap Side key settings at the bottom of the screen.
  • Toggle on the Power off menu under Press and hold.

Stop killing background apps

Samsung smartphones come with an excellent battery life that lasts all day without charging them twice. However, at some time or other, you want your phone’s battery to last longer than usual.

Samsung phones are notorious for aggressively killing background apps in the name of saving battery. These battery optimizations result in missing notifications and apps may not behave as they should.

It’s not necessary to kill background apps all the time. However, you can turn off battery optimization. Here’s how:

  • Open the Settings of your phone.
  • Scroll down and tap Apps.
  • Click on the three-dot menu.
  • Select Special access.
  • Tap Optimize battery usage.
  • It will display all the apps that are not optimized. These apps are allowed to run in the background.
  • Tap the drop-down arrow next to Apps Not Optimized and select All.
  • Now you can find any app that has been misbehaving or missing notifications and switch the toggle off.

Clean up the Quick settings

Samsung One UI offers a little different Qucil Settings panel than other Android devices. By default, there’s a lot going on, you can clean it up to improve the experience a lot. To do this:

  • Open the Quick settings panel.
  • Tap on the three-dot menu.
  • Select Quick panel layout.
  • You can choose when you want to see the brightness control slider.
    • It can show up in the Quick Settings always or only when fully expanded.
  • You can select when want you to see the Device Control and Media Output buttons.

Remove Samsung Free

Samsung Free is a content Newsgator service that provides one-stop access to news articles, live TV, podcasts, and interactive games. You can get access to it when swiping right from the left edge of your phone.

It can be annoying in some cases as it can be opened anytime. However, you can disable it. To do this:

  • Long tap on your Home Screen.
  • Then swipe to the left home screen where Samsung Free is located.
  • Choose to turn off the display completely or switch to Google Discover.
  • Then tap on your Home Screen and you’re all ready.
