Samsung used to deliver three major Android OS updates and four years of regular security patch updates to its flagship devices while the midrange phones get only two major Android OS updates before Galaxy Unpacked 2022.

Meanwhile, this year, Samsung made a major shift in its software update policy. According to this new policy, the company will deliver four major Android OS and five years of security patch updates to its devices.

Not only the flagships but selected Galaxy mid-range phones are also eligible to get the same treatment. Samsung believes this change will better meet the longer lifecycle of smartphones and improve the long-term security of those who depend on them.
