RAM is one of the most important elements of a smartphone and the makers are now extending it through software updates. After some Chinese OEMs, Samsung is here with its futuristic memory extension feature called RAM Plus (check the compatible device list below).
Last year, the South Korean tech giant debuted the virtual RAM extension function that comes with up to 4GB of additional space to the smartphone. To be noted, the Galaxy A52s received the Samsung RAM Plus feature along with a new firmware update, which makes RAM expansion possible.
Shortly after the initial debut with Galaxy A52s, Samsung expanded the RAM Plus feature’s availability to more Galaxy consumers. Moreover, the company is now letting users customize the virtual RAM up to 8GB after upgrading to the One UI 4.1.

OPPO’s Memory Expansion Technology
Works as an auxiliary function, OPPO’s Memory Expansion Technology lets users temporarily convert part of their smartphone’s available read-only memory (ROM) to virtual RAM. Moreover, consumers will be given the freedom to adjust the volume of expansion, with three adjustment levels.

August 2022 update for Galaxy S21 expands to T-Mobile unit in the US
Samsung has recently rolled out the first Android 13-based One UI 5 Beta for Galaxy S22 in the US and other select regions. The Galaxy S21 customers are next in the queue to grab this update and can receive it anytime this month. Ahead of this, the Galaxy S21 owners are receiving the August 2022 update in the US.
Since it is just a security update, it does not carry any new features or major changes with it, however, there are fixes for various severe bugs that will further enhance your user experience. Samsung’s August 2022 security patch update for Galaxy S21 comes with improvements for system security and reliability so that users can effortlessly operate their phones and perform various tasks on them.
In addition to this, it also brings fixes for 1 critical and 23 high levels of CVEs from Google and 31 SVEs from Samsung in order to enrich the overall device’s performance. Samsung’s One UI major and minor updates policy for August 2022 is here
Samsung smartphones run its self-developed software system – One UI atop Android OS. Samsung offers different types of One UI firmware updates including major Android OS and minor security OTAs, well, we now have the latest policy dated August 2022.
The South Korean tech giant delivers two OS upgrades to mid-range and budget devices, while 3 OS upgrades to select mid-range phones and four to flagships launched in and after 2021. Similarly, flagships are eligible for monthly security patches for up to five years, while others are on quarterly span for up to four years.
With the August 2022 One UI updates policy, Samsung shifted the Galaxy XCover 4s from monthly to quarterly and Galaxy A21 from quarterly to biannual. Moreover, the Galaxy A8 Star is no longer eligible for any more software update support from the company.
The South Korean tech giant promised Monthly Security Updates for 41 Galaxy devices, while Quarterly Security Updates for 62 Galaxy devices. In addition, there are 48 more Galaxies that are still eligible for the extended Biannual Security Updates support.
Samsung has almost concluded the Android 12-based One UI 4.1 update rollout for the Galaxy devices. And it’s now preparing to start the One UI 5 Beta activity as part of adapting the Android 13 OS for the Galaxy handsets. As speculated, the One UI 5 Beta program might go live in the next few days.
August patch release notes
Aside from the new updates policy, Samsung also published the August 2022 security patch details. The info suggests that the August 2022 security patch comes with fixes for 1 critical CVE. Besides, it also includes fixes for 23 high levels of CVEs, while there is no moderate level CVE found.
In addition to fixes from Google, the smartphone manufacturer pointed out that the August update for Galaxy devices comes with 31 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items, which are described here, to improve the security and reliability of devices.
