Samsung 55th shareholders meeting

Every year Samsung launches a bunch of new smartphones including budgets, mid-ranges, and flagships. Meanwhile, it looks like the company plans to gradually drop the low-cost phone business in India.

According to the report, Samsung will introduce the last batch of budget smartphones, manufactured by contract manufacturing partner Dixon in the country in December this year.

Samsung appears to be focusing on flagship devices as they are being loved by customers and help the company gain more profit than budget. On the other hand, some sources also claim that the tech giant will bring smartphones that cost above 15,000.

The move comes with the Korean company, one of the two major multinational contributors to the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. It is mandated to avail exemption only on production of handsets of factory value above Rs 15,000.

And with the average selling price in India rising, market experts say that the Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 price segment is witnessing maximum traction in terms of volume.

However, Samsung is yet to say any words on this matter. It should be noted that Samsung used to be a leader in the segment till some years back, but its feature phone shipment has dropped 39% year on year in the Indian smartphone market.

Samsung Chipset Semiconductor

Amid the booming AI market, Samsung would raise investments in power semiconductors. A new report says that Samsung is recruiting top talent to design and produce power semiconductors.

Samsung’s recruitment drive has continued since it formed the Compound Semiconductor Solutions business team last year. The team is tasked to enhance R&D capabilities and pioneer new technologies in the power semiconductor.

It seems Samsung is seeing an opportunity as the expansion of AI data centers will result in accelerated demand. It might jam the power semiconductor supply as construction of AI data centers accelerates this year.

Power semiconductors are crucial components in electronic devices such as phones and home appliances, as well as in data centers and electric vehicles, where they manage power conversion, current distribution, and control.
