Published

on

Samsung One UI 4.1 is doing lots of experiments and innovations with its user interface and day by day trying to make it more interactive. Samsung has engulfed them with this latest UI. Today we are going to discuss two of them. They are ‘Digital wellbeing and parental controls.’

Actually, it seems to be only one feature, but it imbibes two separate features that function differently. The first one is the Digital Wellbeing, which uses an app timer and other tools and makes the unplugging easier. The second one is the Parental Controls, it enables you to add content restrictions and set other limits to help your child balance their screen time.

How to use Digital Wellbeing?

This One UI 4.1 feature helps you to keep track of your application screen timing. Here you can set your own goals by viewing the screen time, and watching the time you have spent on the particular application. It is equipped with various modes, such as Focus mode, bedtime mode, Volume monitor mode, Driving monitor mode, and more.

Focus mode: All the apps are blocked in the Focus mode, except for the apps that you choose to allow. However, you are eligible to see any notifications that you might have missed and this can be done when you exit the focus mode. As you jump on it, it shows some of the recommended apps that can be chosen to stay focused. Users have the choice to edit their preferences with the options below.

Bedtime mode: This mode helps you to get ready for the bed by changing the screen to greyscale and muting calls, alerts, and other sounds. Before turning it on keep your schedule ready because you need to feed them here in the options. (You can set a bedtime alarm in the Clock app)

Volume monitor mode: This mode monitors your volume, and allows you to adjust your volume level and observe your listening patterns. If you use this feature, it provides you with ear safety alerts, by which you can get periodic warnings while listening to music or else at high volume for longer.

Driving monitor mode: This mode keeps track of your driving time and screentime while applying driving mode you can have the analysis of your driving and app screen timing. Here it facilitates you to exclude the chosen apps. It is important to keep one thing in mind that screen time while driving mode would not be counted for the apps you exclude.

How to use Parental Controls?

By using parental control you can keep tracking your kids, here you can add the device of a child that you need to supervise. Make sure that you are in the vicinity of the device which you want to observe and connect to a common Wi-Fi network. As you move further it asks you that being a family manager you are managing the group and one email is needed to sign in.

Follow steps:

  • First, create a Google account for children
  • Get your child’s device.
  • Follow the on-screen steps
  • The download the Family Link app
  • Do the setting as directed on the screen

Now, you are ready to monitor the children’s devices with this Samsung utility. Alternatively, you can add another parent to help supervise your children with Family Link. I found it to be truly fantastic.
