Confirmed: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset will launch on May 20

Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in December 2021 which powers most of the flagship smartphones released so far. Meanwhile, the company has now declared the launch of its ‘Plus’ variant which is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+.
Qualcomm recently announced that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset will launch on May 20. The chipmaker will hold an online launch conference that will start at 20:00 on the day.

Further, the upcoming chipset is built on Taiwan-based TSMC’s 4nm semiconductor fabrication process. And since it is a Plus edition, it is speculated that it will be more efficient than the regular version.

Many smartphones of various brands including Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, OnePlus, etc are set to enter the markets powering the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor with the first smartphones powered by it expected to launch by June.
Samsung will also introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 which feature the same chipset but these will not be the first to use it. Instead, the company will launch these two phones sometime in August.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will come with further improvements over their predecessors. These will come with a larger display, enhanced camera experience, powerful battery, and some changes in design as well.
Besides, several users have reported issues with the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor producing heat very quickly and it is expected that its Plus variant will not have these issues. We might get more information about the upcoming flagship chipset in the coming days.

Global smartphone sales declined below 100 million, 2nd time in 10 years

According to the Counterpoint Research report, the global monthly smartphone sales fell below 100 million for the second time in 10 years. The monthly report for May 2022 shows that the global smartphone market sold 96 million units, down 4% month-on-month and 10% year-on-year.
