Samsung is the world’s largest chipmaker and has decided to broaden the gap from its chip manufacturing rivals, though it aims to become a market leader in making more advanced memory chips by 2030.

According to the Korea Herald, Samsung is planning to do an investment of 240 trillion won means 187 billion dollars but has not implemented the whole amount. As if now only 1.7 billion foundry plants in Texas, United States.

Some popular blogs are talking that ‘US President Joe Biden’ could visit the Samsung Chip foundry at Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and he would be on a three-day visit to Seoul from May 20 to 22, 2022.

We all know that Samsung is planning to bring everything to one place whether it’s a lithography technician, engineer, or another type of skilled worker together necessary for chip making.

Samsung is planning to increase its foundry line for various types of products whether they are Foldable smartphones, OLEDs, QLEDs, or metaverse technology and equipment.

Instead of sourcing various necessary parts, Samsung is planning to manufacture them, all in one place, and this would definitely reduce the production cost and though the market price.

Let us tell you that SK Hynix, Hyundai, and LG along with Samsung could plan to make the biggest ever chipping consortium. But the top players have to work together and overcome many challenges, which they are going to face jointly.

Presently, they are busy investing individually to diversify and regulate their tax cuts. However, the announcement of the new government under the leadership of ‘President Yoon Suk-yeol’ could accelerate the momentum in the upcoming days.

Samsung acquired 23 Seagate patents in the US

Seagate

Samsung acquired 23 magnetic record-related patents from Seagate in the US. Samsung could use these Seagate US patents to complement the MRAM-based in-memory computing technology.

If not, the company might have intended to end its past business relationship with Seagate. Notably, of the 23 patents purchased by Samsung, 4 have already expired.

Way back in 2011, the South Korean tech giant sold its HDD business and 479 US patents to Seagate. However, Samsung’s newly acquired patents are not from those it sold to Seagate over a decade ago.

Samsung may not have bought Seagate patents to simply secure HDD tech. These patents might be used for in-memory computing-based MRAM; being developed by Samsung Electronics Advanced Institute of Technology.

The company is quite serious about its semiconductor business amid the AI boom. While there’s a significant rise in memory-related semiconductor demand globally, Samsung is continuously expanding its footsteps.

“Samsung Electronics may be trying to wind down its remaining business relationships after selling its stake in Seagate in the past, and it may be a kind of fake patent purchase strategy to deceive competitors,” said an industry insider.

Samsung introduced the Z Flip 5 with a quite large cover panel over its predecessor. While there’s no plan for further increasing the outer display on the next Flip, Samsung isn’t entirely skipping the segment. An upgraded panel with a 90Hz refresh rate will deliver a smoother user experience.

The company is expected to hold its next Unpacked event in mid-July. This year, there will be four foldable phones, of which, three will be introduced at the July event. The Z Fold 6 to get Ultra model and an FE (Fan Edition) variant would launch later this year.
