Android Theft Protection features coming to your Samsung Galaxy

Published

on

Google has started rolling out new Theft Protection features for Android devices including Samsung Galaxy devices running version 10 and above. Announced at the I/O 2024 event in May, these new features help to keep your personal information safe if your phone gets stolen.

The trio of Theft Protection features are now becoming available to Android users including those with devices from brands like Pixel and Samsung. You can start seeing these new features if you’re part of the Google Play services beta (version 24.40.33) program.

Google Theft Protection

The Theft Protection is a new privacy and device safety feature added under Google Services. It helps to keep your personal data safe if your device is stolen.

To access the new theft protection features, check the Theft protection in your device’s Settings app. You can also go to the Google Services page and find it under the All Services tab. This feature includes three main options, they are:

1.)  Theft Detection Lock

This feature uses your device’s sensors, Wi-Fi, and smart device connections to detect if someone suddenly grabs your phone while you’re using it. If this happens, your phone will automatically lock its screen to unauthorized access to your personal data.

2.) Offline Device Lock

This feature starts its work if someone steals your phone and turns off the internet to stop tracking. For that, Google mentions two conditions – you need to be using your phone while it’s unlocked, and you can only lock the screen up to twice a day.

3.) Remote Lock

If your phone is stolen, you can go to android.com/lock to lock it remotely. You’ll need to confirm your identity with a phone number and answer a security question. This is faster than the Find My Device method.

Samsung Mobile in crisis, third-quarter profit could sink 25%

Samsung Fold Flip 6 August 2024 update US India

Samsung Mobile Experience division is in crisis, with a 25% profit sink likely in the third-quarter. Samsung’s aggressive marketing and Galaxy AI strategy paid off, but less than expectations – resulting in operating profit harm in Q3.

South Korea’s FNGuide reports that the Samsung Mobile division could generate an operating profit of 2.6 trillion won in the third-quarter. The estimation indicates a 25% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Foldables are to be blamed?

Back in July, Samsung launched new foldable smartphones, powered by Galaxy AI. The Z Fold 6 comes with a slightly wider screen made possible through design refinements. However, the Z Flip 6 has no changes from its predecessor in looks.

Thanks to Galaxy AI, Samsung’s Z6 foldables garnered attention. Their performance has been weaker than expected given the slow pace of recovery globally. The Galaxy S24 series sales were also not impressive despite the swift pace after launch.

Samsung Q1 Q2 2024 Sales

The South Korean tech giant is implementing measures such as cost-cutting for processors. Still, industry experts suggest that improving software competitiveness is essential for creating new revenue streams.

After Galaxy AI-powered S24, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6, Samsung strengthened its AI ecosystem with the Tab S10 series and the S24 FE. Despite this much effort, the performance of the MX division has not shown signs of recovery.

IDC reported that Samsung led the smartphone market in the second quarter with an 18% share. Despite fierce competition, Apple was the runner-up with a 16% share, while Xiaomi retained its third rank with a 15% market share.
