Samsung SDI Battery

Samsung unveiled game-changing battery technologies that charge in 9 minutes and last for 20 years. At the 37th Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition, the company revealed its ambition for solid-state batteries at the Olympics of Electric Vehicles.

According to the info, all solid-state batteries are targeted for mass production in 2027. Meanwhile, Samsung SDI is aiming to develop a battery that charges 80% in 9 minutes by 2026. Besides, an EV battery with over 20 years of life is aimed to be developed by 2029.

At EVS37, the South Korean tech firm is putting solid-state batteries at the forefront. The company may showcase the unique advantages of its solid-state batteries, including proprietary anode-free technology and the industry’s highest energy density of 900 Wh/L.

“Samsung SDI is well on the way to secure key technologies for industry-leading innovations that include all solid-state battery, ultra-fast charging, and ultra-long life battery,” said Samsung SDI President & CEO Yoon-ho Choi. “With the technology leadership enabled by our ‘super-gap’ technology, Samsung SDI will pioneer the future global EV market.”

Additionally, Samsung SDI’s no-thermal propagation technology will be in the spotlight at EVS37. The company utilizes built-in vents, which exhaust heat and gas arising from an impact or a fire to minimize the propagation of thermal runaway.

Solid-state battery for mobile?

As the battery is a crucial part of smartphones, Samsung may not perform any kind of experiment among the public. We’ve heard about all-solid-state battery tech for mobile devices. This will not be happening anytime soon as the tech should be ensured before reaching the hands of the public.
