Samsung accelerating efforts to build new supply chain

Samsung 5G Brand

Samsung is accelerating toward the shift of supply chain from China. The Chinese manufacturer has long relished its role as the so-called world’s factory that is offering lower production costs to lure global brands and retain its domestic manufacturer for decades.

According to ‘Korea Times‘, the largest South Korean businesses including Samsung, LG, and Hyundai Motor, have relocated themselves from mainland China to southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia.

The gradual rise in expenses, such as labor costs, have weakened the Chinese role, and companies like Samsung who was first planning to source Chinese manufacturer for OLED panel, and more things might drop the plan.

Multinational firms are being increasingly pressured to move production away from china to new destinations such as Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

A couple of weeks ago we have seen Samsung Electronics in talks with Japan’s Canon Tokki Corporation for making the ultra-slim OLED displays for their next-generation TVs. Also in talks with the company for thinner QLED displays.

Looking at the Korean companies’ interest in setting up the manufacturing unit in countries like Taiwan and Indonesia. Their governments have also started offering leverage in policies for relocating the setup to their place. The trend to relocate the production began a year ago when there was a trade and tariff war going on between U.S and China.

Samsung has a large semiconductor plant in Xian and a factory producing household appliances in Suzhou, which will be slowly relocated to new destinations such as East Asia. This step taken by the Korean tech giant could lead to the build-up of a new supply chain that will completely exclude the mainland of china.

Samsung Galaxy S9, Note 9 to get ‘unofficial’ Galaxy AI/One UI 6.1 next month

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and S9 series may run Galaxy AI features, powered by One UI 6.1. Noble ROM developer confirmed that the 4.1 iteration is coming next month, which intends to bring the One UI 6.1 update along with Galaxy AI features.

Galaxy AI brings pretty useful features to Samsung’s recent flagship devices. The suite consists of on-device and cloud-based artificial intelligence and Generative AI capabilities. Due to hardware limitations, features may vary by model, carrier, and language.

The company debuted Galaxy AI with the S24 series earlier this year. In the first expansion phase, many AI features rolled out with One UI 6.1 update to the S23 series (FE too), Tab S9 series, Z Flip 5, and Z Fold 5. Another round of expansion is set to take place in May 2024.

The next expansion phase will bring Galaxy AI to the Galaxy S22 series, Tab S8 series, Z Flip 4, and Z Fold 4. Older models are not eligible for Galaxy AI, however, the One UI 6.1 will be released to phones running Android 14-based One UI 6.0.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI introduces various features on supported devices including Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion, and AI-Generated Wallpaper.

Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 series were Samsung’s popular yet top-selling flagship lineups. After supporting beyond the pre-planned period, Samsung stopped releasing new software updates. Meanwhile, the Noble ROM 4.1 (Custom ROM) intends to fuel a new yet epic life for these veterans.

Consumers won’t get the firmware over the air. If you wanna get the Galaxy AI, you need to manually flash the firmware on the device. It requires basic knowledge of custom ROM installation and failure in installation might lead your phone to brick.
