Samsung is expected to load MediaTek’s Mobile Application Processor (AP) into this year’s Galaxy S22 FE. So far, the company is used MediaTek’s AP for the budget Galaxy A series on a limited basis. This means that the Exynos AP, manufactured by the foundry division of Samsung, will lose further influence in the AP market.

Samsung Galaxy S22 FE is expected to feature MediaTek chipset

Samsung is looking to load MediaTek’s AP on the Galaxy S22 Fan Edition (FE) and Galaxy S23, which will be released in the second half of 2022. About half of the Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 smartphones sold in Asia are expected to use MediaTek’s APs.

Samsung retains to use of Qualcomm AP and Exynos AP for its premium smartphone lineup. For mid-to-low-end smartphones, MediaTek AP is partly used to reduce unit prices and promote price competition. So this is the first time that Mediatek APs have powered premium Samsung smartphones.

MediaTek AP stands for medium to low priced smartphones under US$400 in the market. However, the company’s next-generation premium mobile AP Dimension 9000, which was released in early 2022, has received favorable reviews, encouraging it to actively target the premium AP market.

In 2022, the foundry division of Samsung decided to increase its market share by mass production of the Exynos chip manufactured using the industry’s first 3-nm process. As the Korean tech giant’s foundry technology is at the forefront of the industry, it is increasing its strength in product yield and price competitiveness.

Previous Report

Earlier, a well-known Weibo tipster –  It’s Fat suggested that the flagship Dimensity 9000 chipset could be arriving with a mid-range Samsung smartphone. Although he did not give the exact name, he did say that it is the Galaxy S22 FE or the Galaxy A53 Pro.

But since there is no Pro variant of the old Galaxy A-series, the existence of the Galaxy A53 Pro is quite doubtful. So, it is probably more likely that Samsung will be using the Dimensity 9000 in the Galaxy S22 FE.
