Google Messages bringing ‘Delete for Everyone’ option to RCS chats

Google is working on a new feature for its Messages app that will allow users to delete RCS chats not just from their own device, but also from the recipient’s device. This feature follows the new RCS Universal Profile v2.7, which was announced in June 2024.
The new delete feature has been spotted on the Google Messages app version 20250131_02_RC00 by AssembleDebug (via Android Authority). It is similar to how WhatsApp allows chat deletion.
Right now, when you delete an RCS message, it only disappears from your phone, but the person you sent it to can still see it. Soon, you’ll be able to delete messages for everyone There will be two options for deleting messages – Delete for everyone and Delete for me.
The “Delete for everyone” option will remove the message from both your phone and the recipient’s phone. If you choose “Delete for me,” it will only delete the message from your own device, and the recipient will still be able to see it.
However, there’s a catch. If you delete or try to delete a message, the person you sent it to will get a notification about it. This means they’ll know that you’ve deleted a message or tried to do so. This could be an issue for some people who prefer to delete messages quietly without others finding out.
These new delete capabilities will make Google Messages more similar to other messaging apps that already allow message deletion, like WhatsApp and Telegram.
It will be a helpful feature for those who want to remove mistakes or old messages. The new feature will be available soon for users with the latest version of the app. Once available, it could soon be expanded to Samsung devices.
