Google Messages has always been available for Samsung users but it didn’t come pre-installed. After a mess for years, it seems that the Korean company has finally decided to make Google Messages the default SMS application for flagship devices, at least in the United States.

Last year Samsung Galaxy S21 series and now the newly launched Galaxy S22 series came pre-installed with the Google Messages app in the US markets. More excitingly, Samsung Galaxy S22 Google Messages also brings support for the more advanced version of texting that is RCS.

Moreover, this collaboration between Google and Samsung takes Google Messages to another level. It is now fully integrated with One UI, especially for Samsung smartphones, and offers a lot of functionalities that other Android users can’t get.

Google’s app was updated to offer advanced features like YouTube video previews inside message threads. Recently, Google has also released the iMessage-like message reaction feature for Google Messages, which makes it more impressive.

Do note, although the Samsung Galaxy S22 comes pre-installed with Google Messages, users can always change default apps from the Settings app, by navigating Apps >> Choose default apps >> selecting SMS app.

It should also be mentioned that the midranges and budgets phones still come with Samsung Messages but they can download the Google Messages app from Google PlayStore. However, that Google Messages version will not be as capable as the pre-installed one.
