Vietnam is Samsung Electronics‘ largest smartphone manufacturing base. The country produced 61 percent of the company’s smartphones by 2020. That’s why Samsung Electronics vice chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee visit Vietnam to make final preparations for the annual Galaxy Unpacked Event 2022 of the South Korean tech giant.

According to the latest info shared by Korean media, the executive arrived in Hanoi to inspect the production of the Galaxy 22 smartphone. This is Han’s first visit to Vietnam since Samsung Electronics merged its smartphone and consumer electronics divisions into the Mobile Experience (MX) division in December.

The company’s Equipment Business Head last officially visited Southeast Asia in October 2020. At the time, Samsung’s CEO Lee Jae-yong accompanied him on a business trip. Samsung Electronics has revealed that the executive schedule for the Han Vietnam tour will be confidential.

Samsung Electronics ‘smartphone production had problems last year, with Vietnam restricting workers’ travel from May to September when it launched lockdowns on industrial complexes near Hanoi and Ho Chi Min. Some Samsung Electronics sellers have their workers sleeping in factories to continue production.

Moreover, Samsung Electronics created an emergency fund on December 5 and granted a $220 billion won ($ 183.6 million) zero-interest loan to help local suppliers overcome sanctions. Han is wished to check at the last minute on whether the smartphone product is back on track before the release of the Galaxy 22 series.

One week after receiving the emergency loan, Vietnam National Assembly Speaker Wong Din-hyu visited Han in Seoul on December 13. The two discussed Samsung Electronics’ business and investments in Vietnam, as well as actions to be taken against the long-running Covid-19.

Samsung is currently Vietnam’s largest foreign direct investment (FDI) partner, accounting for more than 25 percent of its exports. Thanks to Samsung, Vietnam has become the second-largest exporter of smartphones in the world.

Samsung 9th Gen V-NAND

The industry’s first 9th Gen V-NAND entered the mass production stage, Samsung announced. Samsung improved the bit density of the 9th-generation V-NAND by about 50% compared to the previous generation.

Samsung highlights productivity for the 9th Gen V-NAND groundbreaking double-stack structure enhanced through advanced “channel hole etching” technology, helping the company solidify its leadership in the NAND flash market.

In particular, the South Korean tech giant has commenced mass production for the 1Tb TLC 9th-generation V-NAND this month, followed by the quad-level cell (QLC) model in the second half of this year.

The advanced “channel hole etching” technology showcases Samsung’s leadership in process capabilities.

Channel hole etching tech creates electron pathways by stacking mold layers and maximizes fabrication productivity as it enables simultaneous drilling of the industry’s highest cell layer count in a double-stack structure.

As the number of cell layers increases, the ability to pierce through higher cell numbers becomes essential, demanding more sophisticated etching techniques.
