Another Android malware has appeared and its name is ‘BRATA’. Sad to say, this malware does a lot of damage. It can not only steal your data but also wipe the data on your smartphone completely.

It is basically a remote access Trojan and has been used in the past to steal banking details. Unfortunately, malware has evolved and it can do a lot more now. Regrettably, this involves both stealing various data and erasing your smartphone data.

A computer security company called Cleafy (via Bleeping Computer) describes how this malware works. Its latest version tries to prevent antivirus scanners, keylog and smartphones from being factory reset.

Like many other malware programs, it comes in a variety of forms. Comes with BRATA.A GPS tracking feature and factory reset capability. BRATA.B has the same features along with some additional codes to override specific bank pages to retrieve login details. BRATA.C can actually download a secondary app that contains malware to a smartphone.

So, as always when it comes to installing apps, be careful what apps you install. Moreover, be careful what apps you allow. If the app needs some unrealistic permissions, you know something is off.

There are many malware programs out there, but most of them require you to grant them specific rights to cause reasonable damage. Also, be careful where you type your login credentials, especially banking credentials.
