YouTube is a widely used application preinstalled on almost all Android devices, that allows users to watch and share online videos on various topics. On Youtube, we watch different types of videos, and also, we want to download them, but we are not able to do so due to limited data plans and many other reasons.

YouTube Smart Downloads:

But now, as per information (via- 9to5google), YouTube has now started testing a new feature called Smart Downloads for Android users. This feature allows you to automatically download 20 videos per week while connected to Wi-Fi. Your downloaded videos will appear as offline content on the download page (library tab).

This feature is pretty much the same as YouTube Music and is helpful for users who live in areas with poor cellular coverage. In the case of YouTube Music, the algorithm responsible for deciding what to download is great and we are expecting the same for videos.

For now, the company has decided to limit who can test Smart Downloads, as this feature is only open for some users in Europe. It will be soon released in more regions such as the US.

Therefore, if this feature is available for your account, then you might have seen it advertised in the Home Menu. You can try the feature by following the steps given below.

  • Go to your account
  • Now, click on Settings
  • Then, select the Try New Features option
  • Here you will find the details of the new feature and also you can try it out
