Future Samsung Galaxy Watch will have rollable screen with hidden camera
Samsung already announced its new era of foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. It is expected that Samsung will eventually introduce other types of consumer electronics products with flexible screens, it looks like the company is looking to expand it.
Similarly, Samsung is working on harmony in a rollable smartwatch, according to a newly issued patent by Let’sGoDigital. This is a Samsung Galaxy Watch with a rollable screen. In its most compact form, it is a simple-shaped watch with two semi-circular display components. The display of Samsung’s rollable watch is touch-sensitive.
A narrow frame is mounted between the two half-circle frames, making it possible to stretch the rollable screen. The display area extends from the center. In the fully extended state, the screen surface is approximately 40% larger than in the most compact state.

Looking at the patented images, we see another interesting feature with the Samsung Rollable Smartwatch. When the smartwatch is extended and the two frames are separated, they expose the camera to the center of the watch.
This means that the camera will be an under-display camera. According to the report, this camera can take both photos and videos. Not only is this camera very small but it is still evolving with display-camera technology so we can not expect any top performance from it.
Since this is a patent only, we cannot say for sure if we will ever see this device again. Samsung filed for the patent in July this year and we have not found any leaks or rumors regarding the official device.

Samsung announced the expansion of its semiconductor investment in the US. The Biden government is also awarding a subsidy of $6.4 billion to the company so it can accelerate the expansion of its global semiconductor supply chain in the era of AI.
- Experts pointed out Samsung’s production capabilities as a world-leading semiconductor producer and commitment to US investment have led to the third-biggest subsidy deal with Washington.
The Korean tech giant revealed that it’s increasing its investment in its semiconductor plants in Texas to more than $40 billion from $17 billion. Following the CHIPS Act subsidy, Samsung will help to boost the US semiconductor production to 20% by the end of the decade.
Samsung is committed (via KoreaTimes) to doing its best to strengthen the local semiconductor ecosystem in the US, as well as dealing with booming demand for new high-performance AI chips like HBM amid the rise of applications such as GenAI, exemplified by models like ChatGPT.
“We’re not just expanding production facilities, we’re strengthening the local semiconductor ecosystem and positioning the US as a global semiconductor manufacturing destination,” Kyung Kye-hyun, CEO and head of semiconductor business at Samsung Elec, said after the govt’s announcement in Taylor.
