Samsung to expand its foldable OLED display production capacity

Published

Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup has been impressive so far, especially with the arrival of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3. Recently, a new report from South Korea now indicates that the manufacturer is looking to expand its production capacity by adding three foldable OLED displays by adding more foldable module lines up in its unit in Vietnam.

According to TheElec reports that the expansion will increase Samsung’s total number of foldable module lines from seven to 10. This will increase the company’s foldable panel production capacity from 1.4 million to 1.5 million to 2 million units per month.

Samsung has begun placing orders for the necessary equipment needed for the display module lines, the report said. This will enable the company to reach its annual target of 18 million foldable display shipments by 2022. In contrast, the company expects 8.1 million shipments this year.

Adding to this, experts further revealed that the foldable panel of Samsung Display has a yield rate of 90%. It is estimated that 18 million units will be shipped next year, with 14 million going to Samsung Electronics. The rest of the foldable panels can go to other manufacturers.

Samsung to produce Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 up to 10 million units

It’s no secret that Samsung is heavily banking on foldable display smartphones. Although the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 were recently launched by their ancestors, we are already seeing their reports. The manufacturer’s foldables may also change the Galaxy Note lineup for the better.

Although Samsung foldables are very exciting, their high price tags do not make them attractive to a large number of smartphone users. With this in mind, the low price tag makes sense for the fourth generation Samsung foldable. However, there is still a lot we do not know about Samsung’s plans for Foldable. Hopefully, we will have a better idea in the next few months.
