Google Messages app may soon add new way to highlight unread chats
The unread conversations in Google Messages are currently displayed in bold text to draw your attention to them each time you open the app. However, the messaging app soon could add a new way to highlight unread conversations.
According to AndroidPolice, Google Messages is exploring a new way to display the blue dot to the right of the unread time stamp. The latest change was found by a tipster in the latest beta version of the app (v10.6.240).
If a feature sounds familiar, it is because it is not new. Google has long used this type of dots as notification badges on the home screens of the best Android phones. This type of badge is also available on iOS devices, as well as unread statistics.
What is impressive about the new test of Google Messages is that it makes messages you have not opened more visible. Although the existing bold text system does the job, it is still possible for some users to miss unread messages if there is no alternative.
However, WhatsApp already has this feature, which makes Google Messages slow in the game. But, if we consider it going to messages in the future, the feature is still a welcome addition to the messaging app.
