One UI 4.0: How to enable AOD (Always On Display) on Samsung phones running Android 12
Samsung is currently working to provide the Android 12-based One UI 4 Beta version to its several high-end Galaxy devices. The company has already announced two One UI 4 beta updates for its latest flagship Galaxy S21 series smartphone users in select regions. With One UI 4 Beta 2, Samsung has made various changes to the user interface and functions.
Furthermore, Samsung also confirmed that the stable Android 12 update will start releasing to the Galaxy handsets later this year, however, Google, later on, reconfirmed the arrival.
Always On Display or AOD
Always On Display or AOD is a feature available on certain Samsung smartphones. The AOD feature on your Galaxy phone lets you view the time, date, notifications, missed calls, and more when the screen is turned off. With the One UI interface, you can do even more with AOD.

With this feature, you can view missed calls and message alerts, check the time and date, and view other customized information without unlocking your device using Always On Display(AOD).
How to enable Always On Display (AOD) on Galaxy S21 devices
- From Settings, tap Lock screen > Always On Display.
- tap on the Toggle to enable the AOD.
Choose when to show a clock and notifications on the screen when the device is not in use:
- Tap to show for 10 seconds, Show always, or Show as scheduled.
Clock style:
- Change the style and color options for the clock on the Lock screen and Always-on Display.
Show music information:
- Show music details when the FaceWidgets music controller is in use.
Screen orientation:
- Display the AOD in portrait or landscape mode.
Auto brightness:
- Automatically adjust the brightness of Always On Display.
About Always On Display:
- View the current software version and license information.

- Open the Camera app, then Settings.

- Choose the desired optimization level
- Maximum
- Medium: Speed up capture time by doing less optimization
- Minimum: Take pictures as fast as possible by not optimizing pictures after they are taken.
- Optionally, enable or disable the Scene Optimizer.
This feature allows for customization of photo attributes such as sharpness, contrast, and brightness. For example, selecting the minimum level results in more natural-looking images, while the maximum level increases detail and sharpness, which is ideal for zoomed-in shots. Notably, the quality optimization setting of these levels only affects Photo Mode.
If you enable Scene Optimizer, it automatically optimizes the color and contrast of pictures to make dark scenes look brighter, food looks tastier and landscapes look more vivid.

Arrange Widgets on Samsung One UI 6.1 Lock Screen
To customize the lock screen, users just need to follow a few steps:
- Simply touch and hold to your phone’s lock screen.
- Select ‘Widgets’ to view the available options and swipe up to see available widgets such as battery, clock and reminders.
Add
- Now, tap on Widgets, then select the desired widget option. You can repeat this process to continue adding widgets.
- To rearrange widgets, touch and hold the selected widget, then drag it to a new place next to the other widgets.
Remove
- If a user decides to remove a widget, they can do so by tapping the red minus icon. This will delete it from your lock screen.
