Samsung Galaxy devices lost WhatsApp chat history migration feature exclusivity

Published

on

Over the past few months, WhatsApp has introduced the ability to transfer chat history from an iOS device to an Android device. However, that feature was unique to Samsung’s Android smartphones for a limited time. Now, this feature is being released on some Android smartphones.

Recently, Google announced that the recently launched Pixel 6 series and all existing Pixel phones support the migration history of WhatsApp chat from iPhone. Google says this feature will not be limited to Samsung and Pixel devices and will be available on all new phones introduced on Android 12. It is not yet clear whether the transfer tool will be available on upgraded devices from Android 11 to Android 12.

The transfer process involves connecting your iPhone and Android phone via a Lighting cable to USB-C. Google suggests users will be instructed to scan a QR code on their iPhone while setting up their new Android phone to forward to all WhatsApp conversations, media, and more.

Google claims to have worked closely with the WhatsApp team to make this happen. Data remains secure during transfer. The migration tool also ensures that you do not receive new messages on your old phone while the transfer is in progress.
