Google introduces more AI-based enhancements for Google Lens

Published

on

At this year’s Google Search event, the company announced a major improvement on Google Lens. This is an upgrade for iOS, Android, and desktop. Google Lens, Google’s AI-enabled image recognition service, was released on Android phones back in 2017 as a spiritual follower of Google.

However, until this year, it is still only available on mobile phones. Google Lens has also received the latest updates on you. These three improvements are all great changes to the platform, especially as Google introduces enhancements for AI.

Multitask Unified Model (MUM) enhancements

This year, Google announced the Multitask Unified Model, or MUM, in I/O. Google claims that MUM can simultaneously understand the information in a variety of ways, such as text, images, and video.

It can also draw understanding and point out connections between ideas, topics, and ideas about the world around us. The company shared an example of being able to choose a shirt pattern from a Google search and try to find the same pattern on socks. This feature will introduce you to Google Lens in the coming months.

Google Lens on Desktop

A few months ago, Google Lens on the desktop was seen when images clicked right. It was a change on the server-side that needed to be enabled, and not everyone had it.

Google is now releasing this feature for everyone in the coming months. Photos, video, and text content on a website can be searched through the lens to quickly see search results on the same tab.

Google Lens on iOS

All images in the Google app on iOS are now searchable in this lens. Google calls this “Lenses Mode”, and lets you search for images that can easily be purchased on websites as you browse through the iOS Google App. This feature is restricted to the U.S. Right now, and there is no word for land liberation yet.

WhatsApp Call Links Group

WhatsApp is updating its app for Android devices with a useful feature for group calls with a new update. The latest version arrives with version 2.24.19.14 and is available through the Google Play Beta Program.

With the latest update, WhatsApp brings a new ability to create call links directly within group chats. Before, you had to go to the calls tab to generate a link for voice or video calls. Now, the latest update lets you make a call link from the chat itself.

Through this update, you don’t need to ring everyone in the group to start a call. Instead, you can share a link in the group chat to join the call. The new feature makes it easier to start and join calls in group chats.

WhatsApp groups call links

Once you create the link, you can easily send it to the group, and members can join the call by clicking the link whenever they want. It’s particularly useful for big groups or people in different time zones who may not be available at the same time.

The call link feature of group chats is currently available through the WhatsApp beta update. The company will soon make it available for all users in upcoming stable updates.

Facing Google Maps app crashes on Android? Try this quick fix

Published

on

Google Maps Crashing issues

Several Android users have recently reported that Google Maps keeps crashing. The issue affects Android users using both stable and beta versions of the app, specifically with versions 11.144.x and 11.145.x.

Users on various Android devices including Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones have noted that Google Maps opens normally but then closes suddenly after a few seconds. This makes the app unusable for checking maps or getting directions.

Notably, the issue seems to be more common for those on the Android 15 Beta, though people with the stable version are also facing the same.

If you’re experiencing this issue, you can try a temporary solution to fix it. You can uninstall recent updates of Google Maps, just need to go to the App info page, and tap on the Uninstall updates option and this may help to fix.

Since Google Maps is often preinstalled on devices, you can’t completely uninstall it. Older versions of the app don’t seem to have this problem, so rolling back to a previous version could be a solution for now.

As of now, Google hasn’t acknowledged the issue or commented on releasing a fix. Not everyone is having this issue, so if your Google Maps is still working, that’s good. If you facing the Google Maps issue, you need to pause updates until this issue is resolved. Stay tuned for updates from Google for a permanent solution.
