This year, the smartphone industry is facing huge issues in the supply of chipsets for smartphones as well as other tech segments such as cars. Meanwhile, as per the recent report by IDC, the global semiconductor market is expected to grow by 17.3% in 2021 compared to the 10.8% of 2020.

Adding to this, the researchers pointed out that mobile phones, laptops, servers, cars, smart homes, games, wearable devices, and Wi-Fi access points have led to a rise in memory prices. Meanwhile, the IC shortage will continue to ease in the fourth quarter of 2021 with the accelerated expansion of production capacity.

Apart from this, IDC predicts that the semiconductor market will reach $600 billion by 2025, with an average growth rate of 5.3% from 2021 to 2025. At the same time, the same source further suggests that the industry will reach equilibrium in the middle of 2022.

As large-scale capacity expansion begins at the end of 2022 and 2023, overcapacity may appear in 2023. In addition, wafer prices will increase in the first half of 2021. IDC expects that due to mature process raw material costs and capacity reasons, prices will continue to rise for the rest of this year.

Here’s what IDC researcher said

“Looking forward to 2021, IDC sees continued strong growth in semiconductor sales worldwide as adoption of cloud technologies and demand for data and services remain unchanged,”
