Following the Chinese network providers’ terms of usage, Samsung has started removing the 5G switching icon from the Galaxy devices’ notification shade, confirmed Samsung China.

In the same matter, a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra user from China shared a changelog of the newly arrived software update, which ditches the functionality of turning the 5G network through the notification panel.

Samsung removed 5G icon

As you can see in the new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra update screenshot, the changelog clearly mentions that there will be no 5G icon in the notification shade of your smartphone after installing this software.

Aside from this, the 2nd revision of the changelog reveals that the Korean tech giant has made this decision following the terms and conditions of CMCC (CHINA MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION).

No 5G connectivity after update?

No, it’s not true. Samsung just following the policies of China’s Mobile Communications Corporation, which is that users can’t easily turn off the 5G cellular in order to switch to 4G cellular.

Even after upgrading the latest software on your Galaxy, you will be able to switch from 5G to 4G through your phone’s Settings >> Connections >> Mobile networks >> Network mode.

Huawei did something like this recently

Last month, old Samsung rival Huawei released a new version of its self-developed operating system – HarmonyOS for smartphones. With the s/w update, the company has also ditched the 5G icon from the control center due to the same reason, reported HCNewsroom.

Notably, the report mentioned that the new HarmonyOS update removed the 5G icon from the notification shade for just carrier bounded devices in the country. So, we can also expect that the latest Samsung updates could not affect carrier unlocked models.

Stay tuned for more information on this matter.
