In February 2020, at the Unpacked event, Samsung added three new flagship smartphones in its Galaxy S-series, Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra as a successor to the Galaxy S10 series. Just recently, the company has announced the Galaxy S20 FE in September 2020 as a less expensive version with the same chipsets.

Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra were launched with pre-packed One UI 2.1 based on Android 10 and currently running on the One UI 2.5 while the Galaxy S20 FE comes packed with One UI 2.5 out of the box. All four devices are on the list of getting major OS upgrades up to Android 13.

Early One UI 8 release will be Samsung’s perfect apology for what happened with One UI 7

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

A notification published on the Samsung Members app has confirmed the soon-to-be-launched One UI 8 beta, and it indicates that an early final release is also possible, which could be considered as Samsung’s apology for what happened to One UI 7.

One UI 7 has been the most awaited software update in recent years, and the credit for this excitement goes to the newest changes and features. However, the delays and the late rollout turned the excitement into disappointment. The company launched a late beta testing and delayed the final rollout for flagship phones: the S24 series, the S23 series, and the Fold/Flip 6.

The back and forth in the One UI 7 saga hasn’t left a good impression on Galaxy smartphone users, especially the late rollout.

This could have been done earlier than the announced dates, but the pace of development and testing collapsed before public release.

One UI 8 beta program notification

Amid this scenario, Google surprised everyone by announcing Android 16’s first developer preview in November. It arrived at a time when Samsung still had a pending Android 15 beta test.

In the past five months, we’ve seen leaks about One UI 8 and how it will improve the user interface. During this time, the phone maker released One UI 7 and simultaneously developed new test builds.

Google has also announced that the final Android 16 launch will happen in June, and it may also be the month for the One UI 8 beta release. Given the fact that the company has completed the beta program preparations, Samsung could publish the beta sign-up banner anytime.

An early test will also lead the way to fast development and to a stable One UI 8 rollout, which we can consider as Samsung’s full circle correction in delivering high-pace software updates. Eventually, this rollout will have higher chances of wrapping things up by the Q4 rather than slipping to 2026. For now, Samsung has not announced any rollout plan for this new software update.

One UI 8 Beta banner preview shows an upgrade in Samsung’s show and tell strategy

Samsung One UI 8 Beta

Samsung has announced new One UI beta program upgrades, and I’ve noticed something different in the One UI 8 banner preview that is part of the new announcement, which we haven’t seen in the past.

Before we begin, I want to emphasize that One UI 8 beta registrations aren’t open as of the time of writing this article, and this is a banner preview. It appears in the Samsung Members app for beta sign-ups and allowing you to enter the test program.

I’ve compared the new banner with its three predecessors, the latest has refreshed elements that focus on the visual advancements. The One UI 5, One UI 6, and One UI 7 banners are relatively similar, consisting of visual illustrations of the Samsung community.

However, that’s not the case with the new one; instead, it changed the entire outlook. For example, the background card design is detailed with new UI details. The following banner text content is the same (except for One UI 8 with Android 16), but the background color combination suits the theme.

It consists of different UI layers, such as the frosty background, new summary, cards, buttons, and more. Importantly, similar improvements are expected to come with One UI 8.

I’ve created a comparison between these banners, and you can check the difference. It may not look like a big deal, but we can’t rule out the fact that Samsung has tried a different perspective in its show-and-tell approach.

This also reminds me of the One UI 7’s software update settings page, which has increased visibility thanks to the new UI graphics inclusion.

This new UI is part of the broader beta program upgrade that Samsung just announced for users, simplifying sign-up and testing. The launch date for One UI 8’s beta program is still unknown, but it’s likely to start very soon.

Samsung phones will get Android 16’s flashy Live Updates with One UI 8 [Preview]

Samsung Android 16 One UI 8 Live Updates

Google dropped some exciting news at I/O 2025, unveiling Android 16 and its slick new Live Updates feature, which is coming to Samsung phones with One UI 8 later this year.

Live Updates is all about showing ongoing activities on your lock screen, Always-On Display (AOD), notifications panel, or status bar. This feature is going to make your lock screen a lot more lively, coming with the One UI 8 update.

At I/O 2025, Google showed off a preview of Live Updates on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. For instance, imagine ordering food from Uber Eats and seeing the progress live: from the restaurant preparing the meal to the driver delivering at your door.

Beyond real-time updates, the Live Updates progress bar had five segments, each likely tied to a step in the delivery process, and there are handy buttons for calling, messaging, or tipping your driver right from the notification.

Google confirmed it’ll also work with navigation and ride-hailing apps. Google hinted that more app types could get support based on how developers use them. That said, it’s going to be a major upgrade over the Now Bar feature of One UI 7.

While we don’t have an exact release date for One UI 8, knowing Samsung’s track record, it’ll likely roll out around August or September. A Beta Program with massive procedure shifts is approaching Galaxy users, highly likely to launch in two weeks.

The company also teased that Live Updates will hit Galaxy Watches with a Wear OS update in late 2026. As a Samsung fan, I’m excited to see how the Android 16 Live Updates feature will make our phones and watches even more useful.

Samsung Members app update

Samsung has started sending One UI Beta Program notifications to Galaxy smartphone users around the world. These notifications are being sent through the Samsung Members app and give users early information about the upcoming beta program.

The notification talks about changes in the beta process that will apply to One UI 8, One UI 8 Watch, and the App Beta. It also highlights a new dedicated space called Beta Program Home in the Samsung Members app.

The new section will show everything related to the beta program in one place. Users will be able to check updates, see if their phone is eligible, and join the beta program more easily.

Even if your device is not eligible for the beta, you might still see the notification. Samsung is sending it to all Galaxy users, but only supported devices will be allowed to join the actual beta program, based on Samsung’s software policy.

New Samsung One UI Beta Program – Key changes you should know

Samsung Galaxy Monthly Quarterly Updates

Recently, Samsung revamped the Beta Program for One UI 8 Beta, including Watch Beta and App Beta, making participation simpler and more accessible. These changes are announced even before the One UI Beta Program debut for users.

Here’s what you need to know about the key changes and how they will impact your One UI Beta testing journey.

1. Samsung has streamlined the Beta Program registration to just two steps.

Now, you can join the Beta Program once and freely participate in or leave specific beta tests. This eliminates repetitive agreements for each device, saving time and effort.

Previously, users had to agree to the terms for every model they tested. The new process requires a single Terms and Conditions agreement when joining the Beta Program.

2. Samsung introduced a new “Beta Program Home” section in the Samsung Members app.

This dedicated Beta Program Home is always accessible, even outside active beta periods. It centralizes all beta-related activities for phones, watches, and apps.

You can access Beta Program Home in two ways: through the “Beta section” on the Samsung Members home screen or via a recruitment banner during active Beta tests.

In addition, the Beta Program Home includes a community space where testers can share insights and suggestions. This direct line to Samsung helps shape a better Galaxy experience.

You can submit feedback or report bugs through the Samsung Members app by:

  • Select “Beta feedback > Send feedback.” This streamlined system ensures your input reaches Samsung, contributing to more reliable software updates.

One UI 8 Beta – When it’s coming

The revamped Beta Program aligns with Samsung’s goal to deliver a seamless user experience. These changes could expand Beta testing to more Galaxy products, offering a cohesive testing environment.

With One UI 8 Beta expected to start in late May or early June 2025, these changes make testing more accessible. The S25 series users will likely be the first to try One UI 8, followed by devices like the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6.
