Launched back on August 11, Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 phones are equipped with the latest One UI 3.1.1 based on Android 11. As expected, the new One UI version doesn’t include major changes over the previous variant, while it brings Galaxy Tabs-like battery protection tech.

According to the info, the One UI 3.1.1 comes with an amazing battery protection tech, which was previously exclusive for the company’s tablets. This function can be found in Settings >> Device Maintenance >> Battery >> More Battery Settings, and aims to protect the battery and prevent charging over 85%.

Reason behind 85% charging mark

In recent years, many studies revealed that charging a lithium battery to 100% is bad for battery life in the long run as it puts more pressure on the battery that decreases the battery life and it gets worse and worse with every single charge.

Therefore, the battery protection feature sets an 85% limit for charging to ensure that the battery will not be fully charged during charging. For the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3, it’s a very new feature, which was previously available on just Galaxy Tab devices.

At the moment, we are not sure about the expansion of the battery protection feature for non-Galaxy Z and Tab devices. However, it will be interesting to see if Samsung introduces this technology for its entire smartphone segment alongside the major Android 12-based One UI 4 update.
