Samsung was world’s fifth-largest Chromebooks vendor in Q2 2021

According to initial data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) worldwide quarterly personal computing device, Chromebook deployment has grown by 68.6% annually with volumes reaching 12.3 million units.

Where, Samsung was the world’s fifth Chromebooks in the second quarter of the year, as the South Korean tech giant aims to expand its presence in the portable PC market amid the pandemic.

As per the report, Samsung had a market share of 7 percent in the April-June period after shipping 900,000 Chromebooks that refer to laptops or tablets running on Google’s Chrome operating system (OS).

Samsung exports for the second quarter of the Chromebook increased by 179.2 percent from a year ago when the market share of 4.3 percent.

While, HP Inc. increased its leadership in the Chromebook market by 35 percent after shipping 4.3 million units, followed by Lenovo with 21 percent, Acer Group with 15.3 percent, and Dell Technologies Inc. by 14.5 percent.

The Global Chromebook exports increased by 68.6 percent annually to 12.3 million units in the second quarter, the IDC said.

“While this wasn’t a record quarter for Chromebooks, it wasn’t far off the prior two quarters, which shattered previous highs,” IDC said. “For Chromebooks, while still in high demand and even on the backlog for many education deals, vendors have started prioritizing higher-margin Windows laptops given the ongoing component shortages.”

On the other hand, this was not a quarterly record for Chromebooks, it was not too far from the previous two quarters, disrupting previous highs. Part of the tablet was more aggressive than the Chromebook but still managed to grow by 4.2% year on year with a total deployment of 40.5 million units.
