Samsung quarterly profit fall 25%

Globally, central banks are aggressively raising interest rates, fears of a recession are rising and there is always uncertainty about the outcome of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As a result, businesses and consumers alike have denied spending.

Furthermore, this is the first time that the Korean company’s profit decline is happening since the first quarter of the year 2020 and the lowest level of quarterly profit since the first quarter of 2021. As of this latest quarter, strong demand for devices as people were forced to stay at home has resulted in big gains for Samsung.

Going by the information, Samsung’s mobile business is expected to see a drop in profits, with a 17% decline predicted to fall of 2.8 trillion won. However, the launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 during the quarter pushed up the average selling price.

At the same time, Samsung’s chipset business is also likely to fall by nearly a third to 6.8 trillion won, an average of seven estimates showed. On the other side, some DRAM memory chip prices that are widely used in smartphones and PCs might fall by 14% in the quarter, whereas, the prices for NAND flash chips used in data storage could fall by 8%.

This working prototype showcased by Samsung featured an unmoving image that shows Samsung Display + Intel written on it. Meanwhile, Samsung Display CEO said, it is specifically created for computers with tablet-like form factors, such as the Microsoft Surface Go 3.

Besides these, the company does not reveal anything about this display so it’s hard to judge it at this moment. The screen resolution, aspect ratio, brightness, and other features are yet to be known. Even Samsung did not tell how durable this display is.

A notable part is that Samsung calls it a Slidable display instead of an Expandable screen, which suggets that the Korean company wants to differentiate its product from others.

Another highlighting part that Samsung Display’s CEO said with the introduction of a slidable display is “foldable is gone”. However, it remains to be seen if the company will launch products that actually feature this technology and if it will launch then when?
