On July 15, Samsung and KT Corporation (KT) have announced that they have successfully launched Korea’s first 5G Standalone (SA) network, opening the next generation of services in the country. This success follows the recent collaboration of the two companies in the implementation of Korea’s first 5G SA and Non-Standalone (NSA) platforms in the operator’s commercial network.

According to the information, Samsung and KT have been preparing for the launch of 5G SA through a series of tests and trials at KT’s headquarters and urban areas. Today’s deployment will help accelerate KT’s vision of 5G to bring social and economic value and improved consumer experience throughout Korea with the development of 5G.

The implementation of 5G SA networks opens up new business opportunities for service providers, enabling them to reduce operating time, and accelerate a new generation of usage cases and opportunities for consumers and businesses.

In this commercial launch, Samsung has provided KT with its end-to-end network solutions from Radio Access Network (RAN) to Core. KT has delivered a smooth transition to 5G SA via Samsung’s 5G RAN and Core, which can support 5G SA and the NSA at the same time.

Samsung pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions including chipsets, radios, and contexts. With ongoing research and development, Samsung is leading the industry to develop 5G networks with its market-leading product from RAN and Core that have become independent network solutions and AI-powered automation tools.

The company currently provides network solutions to mobile phone owners who bring connections to hundreds of millions of users worldwide. For more information on 5G SA, please refer to Samsung’s whitepaper – 5G Standalone Architecture.
